Howard Out?

But our main purchase of the summer was a goalkeeper with World Cup experience. If the idea of dropping Tim to the bench is so horrible and unthinkable, we needn't have bothered.

Personally, I think Howard should get a few more games but you would think the suggestion was to forcefeed him a live kitten from some of the reactions on here.

He was free mate.

Hes outside the top 10 for me mate.

have to agree, he wouldnt make my top 5.

reina
hart
given
cech
van der sar
robinson
friedel
shwartzer
sorensen
Foster

he may be as good as some of them, but not better
He is better than Almunia, thats for sure.

He sums up perfectly where we are at 'best of the rest'.

He is also far better than Mucha.

Counting the regularity and frequency of people having to say all goal keepers make mistakes, just ours makes mistakes a little more often then most.

He holds his hands up to his miostakes?? Whats that all about?? He doesnt have much of a choice?? Hes hardly going deny flaping or droping a ball.

Mucha isnt the answer either for me, would cream myelf if we managed to get Shay Given.

Stoke will do a number on the other Tim as well - just watch.

That doesn't really add up when the consider the amount of clean sheets his clocked up over the years.

I think Moyes was worried someone might come in for Tim TBH and wanted cover.

Timmy makes mistakes once in a while that leave you scratching your head. But there's few if any in the world who are better athletically at the position. Tim makes so many fantastic reaction saves that many wouldn't even get close to, that I can live with the mistakes (although at his age, they should be a bit fewer and further between).

I think it is fair to say, Howard does have a weakness when it comes to high balls into the area, during his time here that has been shown up and he especially dislikes being crowded by opposition forwards. Some how he does not handle those situations well.

He looked horrible against Russia..

A clean sheet is the sum of five parts, more often then not prob more, droping and flaping at the ball is an individual error that costs us points its as simple as that really.

Although that is harsh focussing in on individual mistakes, ive never thought he was a very good all around keeper to be honest. His best period was the March - May 08-09. He looked like he had matured as a player (despite soft goals in the FA Cup run), unfortuantly that level of form has been transient.

I can't think of any incidents apart from the 2 this seaon where he has flapped at a ball or dropped a ball to condede a goal. Can you?

As much as i'm happy with Tim because he is a good keeper and to improve on him would cost money we don't have, he does have his faults.

His positioning is suspect, he doesn't cope well under pressure from other players in the box (but not many keepers do). Its often seems a case of "could of done better" with tim really. Not out and out cock ups but just watching goals back we concede it often seems like he was too stationary or in the wrong position, or too slow to react.

Of course he makes some superb saves and has more than contributed to our good results over the years.

C +. All round reliable and steady but could be better.

Agreed mate, the away derby in the cup is a perfect example, hes not a bad keeper i just dont think hes up to the standard we should expect at this level.

Mucha will be off in the summer (maybe even jan) if he doesn't get a chance. Especially with Howard making a few balls ups recently. He must be thinking you can get away with anything and still keep your place.
He's a decent keeper and won't hang around without getting a go. Shame we got bummed by Brentford!
