How will we do in Europe?

After the debacle of our last European campaign (thanks Collina), how do you reckon we'll do this time around?

If we do progress in UEFA Cup, surely we'll drop down the league as a result. Spurs played 20 extra games last season thanks to Europe, and all they ended up with was looking mugged off by Sevilla!

The Guardian preview reckons we can go far, but our squad just won't be able to handle fighting on two fronts, especially now that Cahill's injured again. Read it here:

I've seen the Everton page from that paper's big Premiership magazine that's coming out on Monday. It's pretty kind, although they do compare us to a Post Office delivery van! It's also got loads of good stuff about the other teams, and loads of interesting stats from last season, like that we were the third best tacklers and had the second most goals scored by Englishmen. Worth a look I reckon.

Welcome cabron- good 1st post. I actually think we will do pretty well in the UEFA cup. I think we learnt a lot from our last experience and with the quality of the starting 11 being that much better it could put us in good stead.

One question- how have you seen this magazine you are talking about?

Cheers Micknick,

I've been shown the draft copy of it at my work (no, not the Guardian), and have been asked to let people know about it. A good excuse to finally sign up to some forums basically!

We have a settled core to the side now with Howard - Yobo/Lescott - Neville - Arteta - AJ all established in the side. The last time around in addition to the bad luck we had to try and embed the likes of Kroldrup, Ferrari, VDM etc. into the team, not to mention guys like Arteta and Beattie who had only been with us a few months.

I don't expect us to win the thing but we should progress a few rounds I should think.

Our run in europe solely depends on the draw we get. An unlucky draw and one bad game and we're out immediately. I do hope though that we'll get passed the groupstage. If we do that I'm happy for each game afterwards.

Eh.. 20 games in europe? Impossible to reach during the season. 2 games in first round, 4 in group and 2 or 3 stages afterwards with 2 games each... gives about 10 extra games for tottenham last season.

I'm so excited for europe, I really hope we make it into that group stage. We have such a poor european experience compared with our other success, it would be nice to start adding Everton once more to the trophy statistics.

One-and-done. Takle the money and run. Stay focused on the Prem. Put the reserves in the Carling Cup and the guys pressing for first team play in the FA cup. Did I mention stay focused on the Prem?

regardless of how well the team do, i hope all the fans that travel are 100% well behaved.

if we get a great tie in italy, i wont be going, not even if i could go for free. WHY? too many stabbings, dont fancy the risk.
spain or germany for me.

Jeez Suits, way to put a dampner on it!

It will be like night and day from our last go around. We have a good solid core. We had some great looks against Bremen the other night. I like our chances.(y)

At the moment i'm just looking forward to getting through our 2 legged decider and qualifying for the group stages, but QF at least would be a decent run, sorry for being pessimistic but i've almost given up on cup-runs !
