How will Martinez`s tenure be remembered?

It was not a great defensive side. Why do people keep saying this?

Then, just like now, they always let you down when it mattered most. Always.

Goals scored against us under Moyes tell a different story and i am by no means a Moyes supporter.

"letting you down", when you look at what Moyes took over and how he performed, i don't get that. I agree it sucks to be just out of top 6, year after year. However this was before the crazy tv-money.

We all want Everton to be fighting for trophies and play great football, but we have regressed terribly since Bobby's first golden year.

Moyes did a terrific job. But neither him nor Bobby are the right people for a top 6 team.

The man who brought Kendall back into the fold.

For all his flaws I will always be grateful to him for doing that.
Ironically it's the first thing I thought of, although the dire football results of the last two seasons came a pretty close second!
Like you, to do it before the great man passed away must have given Howard Kendall such a lift. He was always held in high regard by fans and hierarchy at the club, but that picture of Roberto and Howard at finch farm chatting football always brings a smile to my face. No one can ever deny that Martinez isn't a decent man, sadly he wasn't up to the task of managing this great club.

As useless as this!

It annoys me how people go on about what he "took over from". yes the club was on its backside when he took over and he did a great job in rectifying that. But he had 11 years. He got us to where we needed to be in about 3-4 years and then stagnated for the rest of that time.

In terms of defending though it depends how you look at it. I have always said football is not a purely stats based game. Fact is when it mattered, when it truely mattered, Moyes defence never came through (along with the rest of the team of course.)

Look at it another way, you could only concede 1 goal in every game during a season. 38 goals against is a decent return right? Now what if every single one of those goals were from one single attack in each game? That stats look great but it doesnt tell the whole truth. Great defending is down to specific moments (I sound like Martinez there...) and for me the true sign of a great defence is holding on when you need them most which is something they failed at each time.

That's like totally your opinion man. ^^

I believe he got us exactly where we were able to get with limited money, outside of an absolute top tier manager.

Moyes wasn't top tier, neither is Bobby.
