Think I'm right in saying that we actually hold the record with Man U for how many years we've been "Champions of England".... 20 years in total considering we won the league the season before both World Wars broke out

I'd say the most important measure to consider is how many trophies you've won. Especially how many league titles and European trophies. If you're going to call yourself a big important club, there has to have been times when you've been top dog in your own league/Europe. That's what football's all about. Time spent outside the top flight definitely takes from your size imo.

You can't claim to be a big club and have won no league titles or European cups, imo. That's why West Ham are currently not a big club.

Its an annoying phrase and everything that is wrong about the diluters of our sport such as Talk Sport etc...

Its just like two kids in the playground arguing about whose Dad is the biggest.

In my eyes there are two big teams in England. Sadly one is on the other side of Stanley park, the other is Man Utd.

I don't really give two hoots if someone says Villa or Chelsea are bigger clubs than us, surely all that matters is how we are doing now.

History is important, Newcastle for example have nothing on us when it comes to the trophy cabinet. But are they bigger than us because they get 50k + people watching them every week? Who gives a monkeys

They could be a huge club if they were ever ran properly, but they balls it up beyond belief over and over again. The funniest club on the planet by some distance, for me.

People forget we had won more titles than Man U before the Sky juggernaut came along. Our expectations have been lowered by small time management and ambitions, but that is all going to change thanks to Moshiri. As for Southampton being a bigger club, that is not even worth a thread: there is no contest between us and them.

The years Everton have held the League title
1891 - 1 (1)
1915 - 2 (2)
1916 - 3
1917 - 4
1918 - 5
1919 - 6
1928 - 7 (3)
1931 - 8 (4)
1939 - 9 (5)
1940 - 10
1941 - 11
1942 - 12
1943 - 13
1944 - 14
1945 - 15
1946 - 16
1963 - 17 (6)
1970 - 18 (7)
1985 - 19 (8)
1987 - 20 (9)

Oh yeah, your right.

well, since neither us nor Soton have won terribly much of anything that matters lately (sorry, the Poulon Weedeater Bowl Paint Trophy doesn't count), here's another metric:

Everton – 2.68m FB likes, 859k twitter followers
Soton – 1,47m FB likes, 568k twitter followers

So we've got history and seems a pretty sizable margin of "fans" via social media, a way to measure a club's footprint.

Meanwhile Man U has 69.5m FB likes, 7.86m twitter followers, so sad naps for both Sotonites and us.

That's low down and dirty comparing the esteemed Independence Bowl with Southampton

The difference is, we lost our manager to Manchester United, a team that has dominated the Premier League, Europe and won countless trophies over the last 20 years, Southampton lose their manager to a team that hasnt won a trophy for 21 years.
