How much exactly are we paying the banks every year ?

Dare say many of them are as well off as many in Britain these days.
... and many of them are tantamount to slaves. Regardless they don't buy official merchandise in China. It's getting better but the bootlegging problem is huge. It's not ridiculous to say having all three US players would eventually pay for itself if you look at the lifetime value of making new fans. Would it work? Who knows. But it's a very reasonable gamble if we could make it happen and if we could afford it. They are also good players so there are advantages inherent in having good players on your team.

No we wouldn't. Operating profit is typically a few million, as it is at most clubs. The only teams in the land making much profit are United and Arsenal, and both have big debt repayments, albeit for different reasons.

We have no way to pay it off of course but devil's advocate an "extra" 3-5 million a year (that we don't have to pay on debt) would be quite handy indeed. I suppose it depends on your definition of "decent transfer kitty" but we've missed out on targets because of a million here and a million there so I do think it would qualify as a "decent" development.

Once the kitbag deal runs out leaving shirt sales exclusive to Everton1 and Everton2, having those 3 americans and the nike deal would see revenue rise quite a bit i'd think.

Living in the states, you walk into any sporting store and they have United, Arsenal, Chelsea, La Liga and Serie A shirts for sale. Even having that minimal exposure, of people seeing them, ya have to start somewhere.

Do not underestimate the profit that could be realized from catering to the USA. 350 million people is not a number to be scoffed at. Acquiring Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey just as soccer starts to become a force in the media here. Y'all English folks write about the Sky six, well ESPN is pretty big its self. ESPN would do windmills trying to get their hands on Everton highlights. ESPN is a machine in the USA, it literally transforms teams in to attractions, see Red Sox, Jets, Heat, Patriots, Broncos. With ESPN and Nike promoting the club it immediately becomes attractive to outside investors.

Besides these players filling two positions we need, one already is dying to play for EFC. They are relatively cheap but the amount of money for EFC could be massive.

2.5m for Pienaar and 10m for Landy? Or 3.5m and 9m ... whatever. Regardless we can't continue just servicing the debt forever. We need to try to pay down some of the debt -- of course we fans will likely lose our minds if we just pay off some of the loans and don't get new players so who knows. It's a bit of a nightmare really.

If we could stretch to Dempsey (if he isn't going top four ... or whatever the top is now ... six?) I think that could almost pay for itself with US marketing opportunities but that's likely a pipe-dream. Even if we believed it would pay for itself in a year or two we literally might not even be able to raise the funds for him anyway.

My main point is we should panic. Time to panic.

Awwwwww Yeeeaaahhhh

There isn't one straight answer on this.

The overall interest is about £4.5m a year. so that's the cost of finance. What we don't know is what goers into other operating costs. There may or may not be a few gremlins hidden in there.

But every part of the early summer we take a short term bridging loan of about £12m. Last season this was from Vibrac. That means for us to get through a full season off our own steam we need to bridge that gap.

A lot of the player sales were to reduce our overdraft that was estimated to be about £25-30m at one point. I suspect it's a fair bit lower now as banks put the squeeze on all top flight clubs.

We also lose a bit of money every year although with player amortisation that's not always straight forward either.

I have to agree with Bruce - i dont think there is money to be made out of the American market if im honest.

Football(Real) is the biggest growing sport over the pond. It may never reach the heights of their traditional sports but there will be something to be had. Bear in mind growing our worldwide reach to generate an extra £10m would be a big game changer for us.

Its an emerging market for football. Everton have already been highlighted here in the States because of Tim Howard and Landon Donovan (older generations remember Joe Max Moore and Brian McBride) and with the television exposure increasing threefold a year, its only a matter of time before people start to pay more attention.

If you open up the market for Everton in the earlier stages, it'll create revenue down the line. So no, maybe it wont be an immediate payoff of 20m, but could bring in an additional 2-3m per season, which means the difference of a player possibly.

It can also cause younger American players to see that the club respect the talented American players and give them a chance (ala what Fulham did with Bocanegra and Dempsey after McBride) and have dividends be paid there.
