How do you get through your work day?

If I am very bored, I try to have a stack of oddball jobs that aren't immediately important but do require some thinking about and exploring the answer to - they're usually very interesting things. Normally they're my Friday afternooners as it does not matter if I leave them as they are when I knock off - plus if I have a sudden brain wave over the weekend I can go to it immediately to get it done.

I currently only have one of these jobs but it's an absolute doozy. In fact I might have a go at it today after lunch.

When I worked (its been 5 years!!) I generally enjoyed the experience, both the work and most of the people I worked with (I will make no secret one or two of them I really do miss). I was usually quite quiet, and listened and watched what was going on around me - sort of people watching, at some parts of the day it was guaranteed to make me smile. As soon as we had to work from home I knew that life was going to change, and not for the better mentally. Sat on your own day in, day out, with just an occasional email or phone meeting for company was not for me. Now I can sit at home, happy with my own company, but with a brother and a mate nearby that I can call on if need be. I have been, and am, one of the lucky ones.

Before I retired/gave up the ghost with teaching.....

Coffee ... lots ... then a bit more.
Avoid adults as long as possible into the day
Avoid kids as long as possible
Do some planning, check equipment for the day,
Teach ... remember that I enjoyed that bit - especially the bit where they recoil from coffee breath.
Eat lunch, drink tea, do some planning / marking / equipment ordering*
Do some bollocking on behalf of others
Teach again
Drink tea
More bollockings/detentions for others / clear up blood stains.
Planning / marking / exam entries or worse: get through pointless boring meetings by imagining some diy I could do later, or thinking how i could repair some of the lab kit, while quietly glaring at the woman who always chirps up with some vendetta she has about some kids during "any other business," in the hope that she won't.

Now.....
Watch you tube / scoff breakfast / drink 2 pints of tea
Fiddle in the shed/car/maintain the house
Enjoy a coffee. Think about lunch. Make coffee break last until lunch.
Eat lunch
Listen to the hifi / now the lawn / clear out belly fluff.

Look busy for when the missus comes home from work. ALWAYS look busy.

This is the reply I was waiting for 💙

As is always walking around with a file in your hands.

I did this for the best part of two years and the only thing the file contained was the days newspaper.
I tried that for a while . . Clipboard with something scrawled on the top page entitled "to do list", the rest underneath was pages torn out of a thick phone book.

Got approving nods from senior staff as I passed in the corridor, always with my brow furrowed.

(Its important to never leave such a clipboard lying about)

I have 15 jobs and the longest is 2 hours. most of my clients are older than me and rely on me to look after them so it keeps me happy if I have left them with a smile on their face. The worst part of the job is the physical aspect as my knees and shoulders are wrecked so my misery is physical, only 11 months and 7 days till retirement though.

you mrs suefire?

You serve soup?
Preferably two.....

Spend way too much time on GoT.

Imagine fun and novel ways for some of my co-workers to perish in absolute agony.

That’s a good portion of the day gone tbh.

Seriously, All the best @Hibbo, hope you can find a job you enjoy, we spend far too much time working to not be happy.

Nothing worse than being somewhere or doing something you hate/dislike mate, I’ve been in that position and it’s crap.
