I'm hoping for some inspiration here as I'm really up against it with this one. Our first is due in June and I can't handle the idea that he won't support Everton. My wife, her mum, her dad, her brother and her uncle all support spurs. The one saving grace is that except for my wife they have all recently moved to Devon so hopefully can't provide too much influence. On the other side of the coin we live in Surrey and are obviously far closer to her club than mine :(

She kept smirking at me today and when I finally got her to confess why she showed me a bloody spurs baby grow she'd bought!rcard When I protested that it wasn't fair to force the poor lad to wear that rubbish she reminded me that I'll be at work whilst she's home all day and she can therefore control what he wears.

So come and folks what can I do to stop him becoming a yid? I'll bet some of you have faced this one before?

First of all, congratulations on the little one mate. Secondly the best thing i can advise you to do is let him choose his own path, he'll respect you more for that. I'm yet to experience this dilemma as a Father, but i know from my experience growing up, i followed my Grandad's example and became a Blue, largely because i had massive respect for him, but also partly because he was the only blue, in a sea of Reds, in our family, and i was never one for conforming.

I was born into a Football family, i wore all sorts of kits up until i was about five or six, i owned Arsenal, Newcastle, Everton, United, even Liverpool kits. So it won't matter what babygrow they stick on him as a toddler, he won't know any different.

My Dad and practically all my uncles are Reds, and there was an awful lot of pressure to make me one too, even took me to my first game, which was at Anfield. But in truth, i was just enjoying the Football, i didn't realise the importance of choosing a club and the colours i would wear for the rest of my life. It was only when i really got into Football and started playing as a kid that it occurred to me i should really think about what club i'd be playing for when i grew up :)

Get him interested in Football, spend time with him, and if the Spurs lot are forcing white shirts in front of him, he'll be more inclined to follow you. I'll have to agree with L.C.A.B on this one, your his Dad, your his hero, he'll be looking to you for guidance in this matter.

L.C.A.B. that's exactly what I'm counting on! She can dress him in whatever she wants and try to brainwash him into following the yids but deep down I kind of know he'll listen to his dad instead!

Cheers mate (y) I reckon you're right that when they're young you could dress them in anything and they wouldn't know any different. I've told the Mrs a few times now that if you try and force a choice on the kid he's going to want to do something else. I reckon he'll hear all these people telling him spurs are best but just like me he'll realise that Everton is the ONLY way to go! I can't wait to get him playing football, and hopefully by then we'll be playing a bit more consistently so watching it may actually be fun.

The only thing me and Mrs agree on with regard to this subject is there is no way he is going to be allowed to follow the the rs or the arse! End of.

My two lads are Blues, so is my Grandson. They had NO bloody choice, lad

Lol! You obviously have not met my wife when she's on her soap box! I'm surprised I still support Everton the amount of stick I get from her family.

Welcomes , Dude ..

You KNOW What's Right , an' You Know What's Wrong , Lid ...

I can only suggest one thing for you to do to ensure your lad becomes a blue.......
When he is old enough to appreciate (round age 5) get him to the old lady ASAP and fill his day with a train ride, McDonalds, Everton club shop and then leave Goodison park to draw him in. It worked with me and my lad wasn't interested in football and all my red relatives brainwashed him......but I got to take him to his first match and then he was chosen....there's no better feeling for me

"Evertonians are born, not manufactured...."

He'll see the light fella. Had the same worries about my lad as Mrs Jock and all her family are big Wolves fans. Fortunately Mini Jock had no leanings in that direction.

Soon as he can sit upright unsupported, get him going the game with you.

a serious dilema for sure. have you got the kahunas to let it be and take your lumps if the worst happens. saying that tho- just be an ace dad, junior will pick up on your enthusiasm for Everton as he grows up.

just tell him girls support spurs, boys support everton when he is about 4 that should do the trick, failing that pinch him every time spurs are on tv from a young age, brainwashing normally works if you get them young
