If the prices over there are too much you could always stay in The Wiza, some quite horrific hotels over here like, so be careful.
How much for a taxi into city centre?
I dont know mate, used to be like 15 quid from over here, but you would just get a hotel near a train station or bus route, trains every 15mins to Liverpool.
Or even jump the ferry, although last time I was on the ferry the prices were disgusting.
I keep threatening to make it over to the Wirral and a hotel might just be the way to do it. Hotel prices in Liverpool have got mental.
No idea on the prices over here like, but if you need any help lemme know.
I would pick somewhere like West Kirby, avoid the hood which is Birkenhead City Centre.
