Not only was it a silly idea but the shoot must've taken place during a gale. The rs perms were getting blown all over the place and it looked ridiculous. I got to the Milk Cup Final and Charity Shield in 84 and I must say the atmosphere was very friendly. At the time I think United were hated more because they had PITA support. That mantle is very much with the kopites today.

At the Shield, when the cops started moving down the aisles with 10 minutes to as was normal to prevent pitch incursions at FT some bloke near me shouted "hey! Where are you lot goin? You should be all on picket duty!! "

It could be mate, the honest answer is that it's more complex than that. Society and human nature has evolved. I do think it was a head patting relationship between us to an extent, it was always a 'Merseyside United' stance while we were coming second behind them, and then when we became more than a threat, things changed.
Politically and socially we have more in common with LFC fans than we do anyone else. Our families are intertwined, our backgrounds are the same, the political and social climate of the 80's and 90's impacted on us equally.
What I do know is this, Liverpool is the last bastion of Socialism in England, and when the muck hits the fan, which it will do again, if it hasn't already, then when anything needs doing to help those in need, Blues and Reds will stand shoulder to shoulder against the real enemy.
Take SpeedoMick as an example, the fella is respected and supported equally.
I'm an older fella now, my community ties and life experiences are from a different age and that includes the two teams.
Like most of us, I'm from Irish socialist heritage, my family is split pretty evenly, things between us doesn't reflect the enmity that's wider spread luckily. While the Football is and always be a major contentious issue, I do know that when it really matters, we are the same people.
Most of the real bent out of shape bitterness seems to come from people who have never set foot either in the City or either ground. And that's on both sides. There will always be the most extreme examples, often from fella's my age who should know better.
The young uns don't know much else, the relationship between the sets of fans has been toxic for many years now and that's the environment that they know and have been raised in.
I don't know what the answer is and I don't rightly know all the answers to why. Like I said, it's more complex than Blue vs Red.

In my experience it's only ever been said by no nothing RS who start taking an interest when times are good for their club

It's a way to try to say 'what?, don't you want the city to do well' When in reality they just need their already over inflated egos massaging by having someone tell them how great the club they 'watch' is, so therefore that must mean you are great for watching on TV a successful club

Was it Merseyside untd when Everton nearly got relegated and the RS had a hearse ready to send down county road after the Wimbledon game, it wouldn't have been good for the city

Or when Everton nearly moved to Kirkby which they relished the thought, that wernt good for the city

What about a brand new stadium on the water front that will create thousands of jobs in the area, don't even go there

Phoney? How was it phoney? You mean to say that you didn't like it (which is fine), yet go on to ridicule those that really aren't interested in the tribal, petty crap between fans. I've see so many fights over the silliest of blue and red exchanges over the years, so don't talk to me about me needing to have my 'over-inflated ego massaged' because I don't buy into that nonsense. I thoroughly enjoy sitting and watching the games with other supporters.

I'm proud that my son and daughter could go to a derby and sit in the family enclosure with red tops on without any problems whatsoever.

What a load of crap, how old are you then, because I can tell you now as a 36 year old who's had nothing but shabite from kopites through school and work and had to feel like i have to defend why my team is crap as if it's some kind of reflection on me as a person, I've never met decent reds ive met plenty of 'decent' phoney reds though like you and your kids though, a little pat on the head and back to how great the RS where, go and suck Klopp rancid little aid riddled bell end you wall pushing rat

If you're 36, how can you be triggered so easily? Why are you insulting people just because they have a different opinion to you? What kind of example do you set to your children and young lads? I'm someone who supports the same team and you're still disrespectful and vile. It's really depressing to encounter such banal people who are offended so easily by petty things. When you get yourself in your next punch up, I'll be the guy on the witness stand asking the magistrate to throw the book at you.

I teach my kids to call their grandparents murders and horrible wall pushing rats, I also teach them to spit on the backs of anyone in the ale house who has took up a table but hasn't got ale, how old was you again ?
