Homophobia - what is your stance?

I'm just after having a blazing row on facebook with some American bible basher ranting that gay marriage is sick and they should be all burned etc; usual Christian right rhetoric. I have some very close gay friends and it really angers me the attitude of religious morons who can't mind their own business.

Is that you in your avatar?

You're spainish, yeah? God damn sir you got some mighty fine women over there. I had a few Spanish girfriends in my time - absolute crackers. I used to love the summer time in my free and single days when they'd pile into Ireland. I love Spanish people - great outlook on life - great fun to be around.

For me it comes down to this:

- If you're a strong Christian or Muslim, not simply one because of your family or because you were forced into it, then your beliefs dictate that you must think certain actions, such as homosexuality, are sinful and wrong. There are no two ways about it really. I know many 'Christians' who say they don't have a problem with homosexuality, but if that's the case then you're not singing from the same hymn sheet as the founding members of your religion.

- On the other hand, i'm perfectly happy for everybody to believe whatever they want and do whatever they want as long as it doesn't hurt other people. The problem i have with religion is that it doesn't go along with that, unless you choose to ignore certain parts of the scriptures upon which your religion is founded (Christianity and Islam)

Homosexuals, Heterosexuals, Bisexuals. They're all people at the end of the day.
