History being cyclical

I was discussing / arguing religion v atheism with a bible belt nut from the US online. He denied my observation that we are animals. My point is that we very much are, but with an opposable thumb and complex communication skills to lift us above them .... we dont, , in general, leave much of a gap with animals in terms of intelligence imho

I'm not we, in general, leave much of a gap with animals in terms of intelligence.

TBF one version of the idea of "the fall" (and one that I have a lot of time for) is that it can be read in such a way that we humans are the exception to the rule, but in the sense that we all share that original sin whereas the rest of the animal kingdom are all still in a state of grace with God, all go to heaven upon death etc etc.
