Historic Win or Historic loss?

Greens win, Labour halves their vote, Reform holds a quarter.
Whatever ones says, its historic....perhaps histeric for the forsaken Left.
The times are a changing, or not.

It's temporarily re-assuring that despite the whipped up frenzy and hype of Reform by the media, the voters have told them to shove their fascism in no uncertain terms.
Temporary in the sense the 'establishment' will roar back quite quickly.
Had this by election taken place in Billericay it might have been totally different.

Yep I can hear the algorithim working overtime before ejaculating its masters next spawn and web.

Hopefully we are at the stage where the tories will never get back in and go the same way as the whigs. Sadly most of their fascists have erred towards reform. Hopefully they will see themselves as being stupid, before long, and give up. Either way its split the dumb right leaning vote.

I'd like more scientists, engineers, qualified thinkers in positions of power ... show us your cv ... but a plumber is an improvement over a shopkeeper or "entrepreneur" or the inevitable law or politics post grad that we get.

God I wish we had a party that represented the majority like Labour used to.

It’s a small sample size(one) so can’t read to much into it because, as magicjuan says if it was Billericay it would have been Reform.
2 things for me. Hannah Spencer is a plumber and plasterer so an actual real person who, hopefully, understands real world things. Not just your PPE grad/ SPAD time server who then thinks it’s their go to be a mp.

Also it will get, again hopefully, Labour to really start to think about what needs to be done. We are getting close to 2 years of the 5 year term and still saying we are not the Tories and look at the mess they left us is not a viable plan.

It’s all a bit Dyche.

It is a mess but we all knew that. Start telling us what and how things will change.

Labour won’t win anything trying to be Reform lite.

Amazing what running genuine candidates in their own communities can do. I think it's underplayed, what a great candidate Hannah Spencer was. It's what any party serious about rebuilding trust in politics should be doing. I don't fully trust Polanski, he's clearly a populist, and I don't like populists. He makes some good noises but he's going to have to put some flesh on the bones of his policy ideas soon. Heartening to see a party win coming from the left though.

Labour should be absolutely bricking it after that. The decision not to let Burnham run looks even stupider now. They seem to have managed the Tory trick of pissing everyone off, left, right and centre, and that's a death sentence.

Reform showed their true colours in losing. Petulant, stroppy, straight to Trumpian lies about cheating. Said a lot about how they'd be likely to govern, and I hope people are taking note. They are deeply unpleasant people with a very sinister agenda for the country.

Labour have got everything they deserved after abandoning Corbyn.

Kier has always been a zionist Tory conman, and his discarding of proper Labour ideals and values has came home to roost.

Overly worried about con-form at every turn, instead of having proper Labour polices and principles.

No time for any politics now, all as bad as each other tbh. there aren’t any real mps who are doing the job for the right reasons, maybe Hannah will buck that trend.

For best I suppose it shows up Reform was what they are, and I read recently their dip in recent popularity is to do with Farage's refusal to deny Trump in any way. Given what Trump is doing right now this may only get worse for them. Then hiring all the old Tory cranks will probably go against them too seeing as a lot help oust Boris Johnson, who a lot of their votes will love

Starmer going around calling everyone extremists shows he needs to go fast, it wasn't that long ago Clinton's 'deplorable' comments got Trump to where he is right now, bombing countries

And having a normal local person works

Where does the voice of change come from and where's that change going are questions that always seemed to be answered within a much more powerful system/network and within boundaries set by greater power.

We all know this and why we falsely hope in the extremities knocking down the boundaries - but they will always remain extreme, or they just flip the script to grab the power within, or they were always within existing power, just veiled.

After many years of observing and engaging in politics I'm left with the belief that hope lies in the local, local decision, local strength.
Liverpool was an eg of this back in the Thatcher years, to some extent, but that was back in times of nationalist boundaries. The physical boundaries of political power are much larger and much more opaque.

I dont see how nationalist politics can be grounded anymore.
The local however is naturally grounded and probably the only real place of/for change.
A place where one can stand different.

To me it shows that the old 3 way system with its floating voters is on the way out and we won't like the replacement
