Whether it's under Martinez or someone else, I hope the kids gets more of an opportunity at Everton than they did under Moyes.

......to be fair, its a massive step up and I genuinely think that if they are good enough they will come through regardless of the manager. Barklay is a prime example. There is a clamour for his inclusion but other than a little glimpse v Arsenal I haven't seen an awful lot and it is noticable that he's not made the U21 squad. I like Lundstrum and think that him and Long have a chance. Regardless, good luck to them all.

That Lascalles from Forest has been around for years. Was my reserve captain at forest in fm11 .How is he still under 20.

Sam Byram is class too

U20 tends to be a bit of a non-event for England. Read somewhere they focus more on U17, 19 & 21 - though they don't achieve much there either

20 minutes of the FA Youth Cup tie v Norwich was enough for me to see Norwich have two gems in the Murphy brothers - they totally roasted Everton - and repeated the trick in the final against Chelsea.

So where are they in the England U18 (or U19) set up? NOWHERE. - yeah they've just signed pro-contracts with Norwich for a year. One or both of them will have a big career ahead of them but the England set up has only just noticed them with call ups.

Jacob and Josh Murphy - got a bright future.

So yeah, it means FCK ALL.

Sad isn't it? I can count maybe three from both squads that have had much in the way of top flight action. Might have missed a couple out, but none have torn up trees and made England squads regularly. Butland looks most likely, but that probably says as much about the paucity of English keepers at the moment as anything else.

The FA have obviously put a lot of faith (not to mention cash) into St James Park. It would be good if they could improve the conversion rate from good young 'un to good old 'un because at the moment it's awful, and looking at the clubs represented in each squad it's not like the best teams are not letting players into the squads.

What's very telling, and a sad indictment of football today is that in 2009 Man City had 6 players in the squad and now they have absolutely none.....says everything about their attitude to youth development and nurturing local talent.

Platini does not like this.

England u19 v Scotland u19

Getting played later this afternoon will have Tyias Browning up against Everton team mate Matthew Kennedy .

More Everton kids playing international football, good to see.
