Quad spent 18 years designing them and perfecting them, before release. 18 years!

The more I've learned about them and how they work, the more I'm impressed. Talk about precision. The drive is basically a big sheet of super light plastic sheet and is driven over its entire surface, not just the centre, like a conventional driver, which can create breakup. To compensate for the big area, which might reduce sound-stage, the drive is divided up with each part being fed via a phase delay array, to result in a spherical wave form mimicking a true point source which you need for imaging.

I have a fairly base reading understanding comprehension, so, that middle stanza of text right there, no idea. Who are Quad?

Quad ... a long established top quality British hifi manufacturer (sadly now owned and made by someone overseas, although HQ is still in the UK). The BBC and many, many theatres use their gear as its accurate, realistic, reliable and bomb proof.
