He lives in the Cotswolds, that‘s cheap !
Yeah, true. We got charged £11/ea for paninis in Leamington Spa at the weekend. They were a bit crap too.

It's always been expensive, but stuff really is going up at the moment.

Maybe that's my hell: eating underwhelming and overpriced paninis in Leamington Spa for all time. Surrounded by students and Tories.

£20 for a burger.

Not falling for it. Gastropubs can get in the bin too. Found a delightful run down tired looking ordinary village pub the other day. They did lasagna, chips and salad for 11 quid. Good chips too and lasagna every bit as good as a gastropub ... none if this skinny cardboard or burned tasting triple cooked nonsense served on an effing plank, just honest to goodness chips and plenty of them. We're loosing pubs like this to gentrification.
My friend, I think Chris would say you are being hoodwinked by Gastropub capitalist pig dogs.

When I stay away with my running, I always stay in little off the road independent pubs for all of the reasons you mention above.

The thought of putting money into the mega companies that own the likes of the soulless Travel Lodge and Premier Inn chains, goes against all of my principles.

It's great ... once you get away from everybody else. Same as any interest really.
I’m so similar in this regard it’s scary.

Speaking of boats, I went on a narrow boat around Bath for a stag do years ago and loved it. It’s an ambition of mine to own one at some point. It’s like a house but if your neighbours are pissing you off you can just go. I loved the freedom.

This is exactly why I lived on a boat for over 15 years. I know my loud music bothers nobody, so I can enjoy it. Noisy neighbours? Just untie a rope and leave ... and no lawyers, estate agents, government agents, building society, insurers need pick at the broken corpse of your bank account for the privilege. Its how life should be.

I can highly recommend watching the wonderful Canal Boat Diaries - on BBC4, then repeated on Dave.

A really engaging young fella, records his life on a canal boat, as he travels the canals of Britain and it gives you a real insight, as to what living full time on a canal boat really entails - warts and all.

Considering Leamington has a reputation for being quite upmarket, there`s not a there.

It`s one of the only town centres I`ve ever stayed in, that doesn`t have a " proper " pub - ended up back at the hotel bar, as we couldn`t be doing with all the the poncy wine bars.

I could tell you a few places. Not a patch on Seaforth like but it did have its rough areas.

Not my top tip for a night out tbf. Only really go there for shopping purposes.

There's a couple of bars / pubs with decent ale choices, but populated by braying twerps.

There's a 'pub' called the 'Fox and Vivian' which screams tosser. Never been in, just the name and look put me right off 😆

Edit: I think the sozzled sausage is now The Royal Pug. Was full of tools the one time I went in. Each to their own, but that's a lot of tweed going on for a Saturday lunchtime in a town centre or my liking.
