He'll always be a legend...but this doesn't help!

He wanted to, but he's too outspoken for mainstream media.

I'd love him as a MOTD regular, or one of the regulars on live matches. His views are proper pro-Everton (much like how all those red pundits are for their clubs).

A MOTD pundit or a radio5 summariser who has never played for the sh!te? Forget it, they make very few exceptions.

Nevile Southall was the best goalkeeper in the world for about three years, and the best in Britain for probably most of his Everton career, except the very end. Unfortunately his utterances to the press and other comments, and his history in failed jobs since he retired have not enhanced his reputation. Fortunately his reputation as a PLAYER will never been dented. I squirm each time I'm reminded of his all time classic quote 'It would do Everton good to be relegated'
I'm glad he doesn't work for Everton, and suspect that as a pundit he would be the comedy relief. Nothing wrong with that, of course, if it earns him a crust. And he'd be funnier(even unintentionally) than Gary, Carra, Hansen, and the rest.

Can't stand ex pros moaning about money. Since the abolition of the max wage in 1961 they've always been loaded. Bloke I used to work for was a journeyman pro in the late 50s to 60s (Lincoln, WBA, Hereford) he said you banked your wages cos the freebies (rent, suits, travel etc) covered the basics.

In his semi pro days he and a mate set up a window cleaning business which blossomed into a contract cleaning outfit boasting a couple of million quid turn over employing over 400 part time staff.

On the other hand I remember Ian St John (ex liverpool) coming the old soldier whinging about wages under shankly. I can't recall the exact figures but it worked out he could of bought a terraced house in Walton every 6 weeks not something the ordinary working stiff could envisage.

Trouble with a lot of footballers is they think the gravy train will never end and don't like real work.
