Nice one dude, i saw this on the EPG earlier and actually meant to bump the heavy metal thread on here and watch the program myself.

But forgot to do both so you've just reminded me, cheers.

If you watch any of that stuff on BBC4 tonight make it Rock Family Trees at midnight. Black Sabbath. Funny as ****, and Brummies crack me up. You wont regret it. :lol:

Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Slade....all Brummie best mates, funny as ****, and could've destroyed the USA together if they wanted to. That is funny.

1= Black Sabbath - my first listen - = GARBAGE . But , serious , [Poor language removed] .
2= The only time in history that Birmingham was happening - alas in worst ever era for music / clobber / fitties /...- Some fukas get all the luck . The reverse of that is also true .
3= Judas Priest Geezer - 60 if he's a day . Needs re-directing to Reidy's Mid-Life thread , PRONTO !!! Google . Please .
4= With respect to Hay' , the most overrated but actually [Poor language removed] , genre in the industry . To me , anyway . Arl men with leather kecks on . You'd fall out with your Arl Fella if he did it . Fact .

Too loud for you lid......:lol:

No offence . With respect and that , ...

L.C.A.B. bitterly regrets it not being 1972 , and thus no huge gap iin market for tunes about , " The Beast ", or " The Man in Black " or " Death Cult Matricide / Patricide Throat Slashers " ...; and lack of massive Mansion , with Rolls Royce in 'pool , as result .

Honest to God , Ken' , just a lack of , everything . Tunes - i.e, melodies . Lyrics - xcpt ref's to Satan / Nether World / Cultism , etc . But most of all , most of all , leather kecks on arl men . And bad muzzies on same .
That's about it really .

Though , I'd never really listened to it , xcpt Led Zep - hmmm ; when good - boss , when not , loud ; and AC/DC - Angus !!!

The early gear esp' is toe-curling in the main . Punk kicks its arse , for example . IMO , nach' .
Weird though , I've spoken more about Metal on here - Hay' - than since I was in school .

Its not all about Satan etc...bit stereotyping there.

As for Melodies etc...its all about the riffs. Takes a master of the instrument of Guitar to hit those babies well and make something special out of it...see Hendrix.

Punk...all well and good but you dont have to be a very good musically to be a good punk band. The Sex Pistols will agree with that one LOL.

Personal taste and all that. I love lots of genre's. Not really a competition to say what's best.(y)

metal isn't just noise, in the main its good, meaningful, catchy lyrics with intricate riffs, bear in mind that bands have to write at least one guitar riff with bass and drums to match. Bands often have two guitarists - lead and rythm. Look at slipknot, you may not like them but 9 members, 8 playing instruments and one vocalist playing in perfect timing is no mean feat!

Mate , thats what I was waiting for , but it seemed - from that prog' , granted - to be random instrumentals , drums , geets , bass , followed by a screaming brummie who looks like he could have played in Lpools early 80's team .

My exposure is limited , I admit , but I loved soul music 30 seconds after hearing Stevie Wonder . Ditto Sex Pistols / NWA /Massive Attack , but this I just dont get .
Horses / Courses , lad .

I'm on about ya' Deep Purple / Judas Priest / Sabbath / Uriah - are you honest-to-God-serious ???- Heep , etc . All from the prog' I admit , but you'd think they'd play The Hits , eh ???
Just not me , I think . Slipknot Ive heard of , but not heard .
Rep's not great , mind , but what do I know ???

sabbath were great but i can't stand ozzy's voice, much better vocally when ronny james dio came. how can you not like THIN LIZZY melodies, riffs, structure, lyrics, charisma, ballads, hard ass tunes the ******* lot. don't even get me started on IRON MAIDEN i'm a fan club member so i might say some [Poor language removed] i might regret later. but each to their own i suppose, just don't understand all the 'it's just noise' comments. thrash, death and black metal maybe but NEW WAVE BRITISH HEAVY METAL (NWBHM) from the early 80's can't be overlooked as major turning point in music industry history, shame all our bands were bigger in the states than here (same happened with zeppelin) how can a country that percentage wise hates metal produce probably the 5 best metal bands of all time.
ZEPPELIN (started it)
MAIDEN (just awesome)
BLACK SABBATH (tony iommi played guitar without finger-tips ffs)
DEEP PURPLE (smoke on the water, enough said)
MOTORHEAD (that's the way i like baby i ain't gonna live forever!!!!)
