Player Valuation: £50m
Another poor performance.

are the players believing their own hype? how so imperious for a couple of months then so uncertain, unconfident, and under par for a solid month?

march 6 - fiorentina A. players [Poor language removed] bricks.
march 9 - sunderland A. hardly supreme, winner that is less deserving than a lot chalked off this term
march 12 - fiorentina H. great display, lost nerve at penalty time.
march 16 - fulham A. diabolical, team full of strangers.
march 22 - west ham H. lazy, contemptible, gutless.

Why bother to fight so hard for 80% of a season only to give up on the home stretch?
Why not secure prem safety and go vacant? why bother to pretend to be something more? why bother putting the fans through the up and downs and false dawns?

today.

Howard - good effort, some great saves. let down by defence.
neville - too many hoofs to a team of midgets apart from vic, where the ball failed to stick.
jags - worst game at CB so far this season.
lescott - didnt seem as assured at CB as he has at LB. not his usual high standard.
baines - good football brain, rustiness prevented him from implementing it.
arteta - not fit, not free of injury, SHOULD NOT BE PLAYING. TOO IMPORTANT TO OUR FUTURE TO RISK.
cahill - not in it from the off, bad decision to play.
carsley - increasingly exposed as lacking in pace, and makes a lot of sideways passes.
osman - two good feet, bit of vision, but not the catalyst. some good passing versus bullied to easily.
vic - not up to it, control lacking in parts, and simply too slow with decisions, it costs time when we could be exposing space when he has the ball.
yak - two good goals, seemed to drop off after his second was disallowed, ran, challenged, played some good balls around and linked play alright. not enough pieces of the jigsaw to work with.

munny - like against chelsea at goodison in the carling piss pot, showed he can pass forwards, and pass forwards well. he can pick passes with narrow margins for error very very well, BUT - too many hollywood passes, too many suicide passes, trying to do too much too often.

munny and cars found themself in the same postcode (zip code) too often tonight, thereby nullifying any overlapping player strength, that they were not on the same frequency meant west ham found easy space, and we became more and more exposed.

Suits, I actually agree with you about Manny and Carsley being too close together in the first half. Same with the "Hollywood" passes. One or two a half is fine but he tries too many and eventually, one of those could come back to bite us.

I think they improved on that issue in the 2nd half however and Manny looked to get a bit more offensive as the game wore on.

Be fair, Arteta was our best player against Fiorentina and his set pieces were deadly.

I don't think it has anything to do with lack of bottle or will to win. I think the season is taking its toll. Remember early in the season when Benithez was critisised for rotating players and he said that he was saving players for now? Lescott's played 48 times this season. Several others have each played over 40 games already. Throw in the ANC too and a lot of our guys have played a whole lot of games.

Teams always stutter towards the end of the season, always have. If we had a full squad to choose from then we could change things around to freshen things up, but right now we're playing pretty much everyone that's fit. We're 7 points clear of Pompey. It doesn't look like we'll catch Liverpool now, but as I said elsewhere, if we were offered 5th place, a semi in the Carling Cup and 10 games in Europe this season I doubt you'd find a fan anywhere that wouldn't have taken it.

I think its possible mate if they are beaten tomorow we will be in a better position the at the begining of the weekend, with a game against them still to play. Its a big ask with our run in but the form book goes out the window coming in to aprial.(y)

Is this the rats desert the sinking ship thread?

Those players are out their feet, it's more mental than physical. Yet again today once injuries hit we do not have strength in depth to keep up a high pressure tempo, there was no one on the bench capable of turning the match so the same old regulars had to grind and grind when no spark is left. It is one thing to look for excuses, point fingers of blame but before doing so recall facts. Which of our stars have been afforded the luxury of an early substitution, I'm certain we have used fewer subs than anyone in the league and all that extra wear and tear shows. The adrenalin has stopped and the last thing they need is a bunch of you shoving a knife in their backs. I actually thought the worst player today was the bloody crowd, they allowed GP to sound like a mausoleum at times. The season is over, face facts and thank those lads for doing as well as they have done. COYB

why compound tiredness?

if the players are goosed, why make sure they are as bad next weekend by playing them this?

pay a bunch of tramps a fiver a piece to go through the motions so the first team can get rested and fit for the rest of the run in.

to flog a spent horse and expect top performance is INSANITY.

time to wake up and realise the problems. it really really is time.

honest to goodness, NO MORE EXCUSES.

Arteta has been the mainstay for a few years plays carrying a injury an hes [Poor language removed] ,hes not bothered surely the guy is entitled to have a few off games wait for the rumours now Peanut did not play cos he wants away load of crap but I bet someone on one of the sites post something on that line

Im like the team [Poor language removed] I am as upset as any one ,but come on Suits there are circumstances involved the euro adventure has taken its toll .who knows maybe Bill will listen to Moyes about how many new signings are needed.

that doesnt help right now.

and the carling piss pot adventure was a waste of [Poor language removed] time as well.

Well, time to hit gritty reality now. It would be a shame if our season was to peter out and we finish outside the top 6. Need to dig in now and make sure we grab the 5th spot. Still got a healthy lead but we have to crank up the pressure on the chasing pack. Good thing about yesterday is that only Blackburn made any kind of ground on us
