Have we over hyped our own squad?

First time starting my own thread so bare with me.
Was in work the other day speaking to a fellow blue after we lost badly to Atalanta and we got onto the subject of our squad. On the face of it this summer we bought what looked like, some good players. But when you break it down and analyse it. It doesn't bode well for us. Also going on the last 3 windows.

Pickford: Relegated with Sunderland
Martina: Couldn't get in a poor Southampton side.
Williams: Swansea are perennial bottom 6 contenders.
Schneiderlin: Good 6 months at Southampton, bottled it at United.
Gana: Relegated with Villa.
Bolasie: Palace are the same as Swansea.
Klassen: Came from a very limited league.
Sigurdson: Swansea again.
Sandro: Scored goals for a poor lower mid table Spanish side.

When you look at the squad this way it's hardly surprising we've struggled.
Have we ever! I expect us to win every game.

They might be crap but they are utter ‘outhouses’ too. Put a shift in. They’re beaten in their heads before they take the field.

I now realise that Koeman’s insistance in playing 2 or 3 DMs per game was to try and cover the massive deficiencies in defence. But in you couple those with Schneiderlin and Gueye’s fall in form, you have the perfect storm. Our ‘back 6’ is woeful. My arl da was banging on about missing Barry in October, and (while he’s limited) I can now see what he was on about. Schneids and Gueye don’t provide the same cover for our diabolical central defenders as Barry did for the previous 2 seasons. Sort the CB and LB weaknesses out, and we should be much more difficult to beat. Just need to address the midfield and striker weaknesses then...

Ability-wise, we have some good players

Despite their pathetic form, the likes of Keane, Schneiderlin, Sigurdsson etc have shown that they are good Premier League players

We have some question marks over the likes of Klaassen and Sandro (neither of whom are the kind of players you'd expect to flourish under Allardyce), given they've never played in England before

What I would do is question the character of a lot of the players we signed, because it's times like these where you learn a lot about individuals, and it turns out a lot of them are utter poohouses

Get a striker, a left back and a centre back in the January window and I think we'll be fine

Genuinely isn't a player in the squad who'd get in the top 5

So, in summary, I'll go with 'yes'

It would appear that Conte & Pochetino think Barkley would. I’ll take their opinion over yours.

The top 5 will be sniffing round Davies, Lookman, Gueye & Beningme. Maybe Vlasic.

There’s clearly stuff going on that’s disrupting moral. Training not working. Doesn’t mean we haven’t got some quality players.

I think part of the problem is we compare players against squads we’ve had in the past.

Tend to forget the money swilling round the EPL means every other club improved too.

Played this game before kick off on Sunday, comparing each player with their southampton counterparts. Currently only Pickford and Siggy would get the nod according to their fans.

On pure quality, not form, it's very different. However we make it slightly silly not having any strikers as these are apparently a key part of the modern game.

The fact you mention this lad as a player the top 5 would be interested in is exactly why this thread was created to begin with.

Maybe those players you mentioned would get in the squad but none of them would be in any starting 11's of the top 6. Bench at best.

He said get in the squad. Which, for a kid of his age, I believe he would.

Do keep up.

one thing everton have always had is players with character and personality. at the minute we don't have any at all.
there is no hard man , theres is no joker , there is no terrier , there is no flash of genius, there is no speedy winger.
even collectively the team has no image or style. no school of science or dogs of war .
look at keane schneiderlin Williams baines siggurdsson ganna McCarthy and rooney, all introverts.

sometimes its not just abilty that is needed.

Think sandro scoring in a poor team isnt a bad thing.

Always thought siggy and bolaise was bad buys for the price. Williams i thought would be a stop gap and would have been replaced in the summer. Gana cant fault the effort but he chases the ball to much and so gets caught out of position and leaves gaps. Rooney is the same regarding positioning.
