Have we over hyped our own squad?

We have a better squad than Palace, Swansea, West Ham and Bournemouth.

We shouldn't go down and we won't under a proper manager who has been there and done it in this league.

Hernandez Carrol Lanzini Kouyate Obiang Reid Cresswell would all walk into our team currently.

You really saying you wouldn’t take Zaha Benteke Townsend over any front Three we could put out? Cabaye and Loftus-Cheek worse than Schneiderlin and Gueye?

Bournemouth have Defoe Wilson Afobe and King upfront. Their 4th choice striker is better than our first choice.

It’s only Swansea in my opinion who look dead this season out of those three. West Brom too. That’s an old squad that has not been replaced properly.

Looks as though there’s one spot that every other team from 9th downwards is trying to avoid.

They were, for the most part, good signings, and they've proven to be good players at previous clubs, brought in under a poor recruitment strategy.

The whole is less than the sum of the parts, plus we're missing a few very key parts (Lukaku replacement, left-back cover, etc.)

Will keep saying individually we signed some good players. Together they were awful.

When none of them for into a team together before a ball has been kicked then that is where you fail. Siggurdson can get 10 assists easy with a centre forward we didn't sign. Vlasic looks talented and so he was dropped, klassen not given a chance , same with sandro, Rooney doesn't do anything and everything at the same time, Keane is crap in a stretched defence , Martina is crap anyway and pickford will be a good investment.

First time starting my own thread so bare with me.
Was in work the other day speaking to a fellow blue after we lost badly to Atalanta and we got onto the subject of our squad. On the face of it this summer we bought what looked like, some good players. But when you break it down and analyse it. It doesn't bode well for us. Also going on the last 3 windows.

Pickford: Relegated with Sunderland
Martina: Couldn't get in a poor Southampton side.
Williams: Swansea are perennial bottom 6 contenders.
Schneiderlin: Good 6 months at Southampton, bottled it at United.
Gana: Relegated with Villa.
Bolasie: Palace are the same as Swansea.
Klassen: Came from a very limited league.
Sigurdson: Swansea again.
Sandro: Scored goals for a poor lower mid table Spanish side.

When you look at the squad this way it's hardly surprising we've struggled.

Great assessment.

I just don’t think anyone was hyping it up at the star5 of the season.

Clearly yes but then they aren't as bad as they are showing now in a disorganized set up. I looked up when Mori was back last night and we top the table in terms of injuries too, nine that's a fair chunk of a squad and some first teamers there. Also take out one world class striker and a quality playmaker in Barkley elimated most of our threat.

With our new signings , we've done exactly what Spurs did when they sold Bale, bought a load of players in, who looked good on paper, but the reality was somewhat different. ( I'm not including Martina in that by the way )

So, it's a yes there.

We've also kept ageing players who should've got the boot.

So it's a no there.

Perfect storm:

3 veteran defenders in Baines, Jagielka and Williams have hit their limit all at the same time.
Solid defensive midfield base losing form completely
None of the new signings settling
Losing Lukaku and Barkley who were our game winners

We are going down with the current defence.

Sums it all up perfectly

Pickford will prove to be a good signing and Gana was good last season. Sandro was a shot to nothing given the fee so was worth the punt. I did not want the rest. Serious questions have to be asked about the signings of Klassen and the huge overpayment on Siggurdson. Bolasie never had the productivity to justify a fee like that (similar to what the RS paid for Salah in a more inflated market)

To be honest Martina no one has ever rated, Williams good for Wales but no one rates for Everton, Klassen and Sandro I would forget about, no one rates them anyway, Gana is fantasic, was always either MOTM or close when he played most of last season, until the whole side turned into a mess, Bolasie was good just that some didnt like the fee, and Pickford is being hung out to dry.
I can see the point you make, i think we over rated Lukaku and certainly Barkley but not the players you list since some are not rated anyway
