Have we been unlucky? Quick stats crunch

Generally no we haven't been unlucky. Maybe here and there we have been and obviously we were with the handball Saturday but our league position isn't far from what it should be.

I know some of you don't give a flip about stats and I concede that they should be viewed as nothing more than a piece of objective reality...however, I have been as frustrated as anyone about our play and was playing around on Squawka's site looking for some objective reality and two stats that caught my eye...

DEF ERROR GOAL & DEF ERROR NO GOAL.

My thought was that we seem a bit unlucky...we've conceded too many set piece goals, no question, but in open play, we've been pretty sound. My thought was who were the luckiest vs. unluckiest teams, which teams seem to always concede when they make an error vs. the ones that don't.

Now I didn't double check the stats and they were as of last week, but sure enough, we are a bit unlucky. We've commited 12 defensive errors and conceded 5 goals from them. Average for the league is 29%. But nowhere near as unlucky as Huddersfield. It also is interesting that Wolves has been remarkably lucky - which makes sense, because when I watch them they don't see particularly good other than passing the ball fairly well. Leicster is also quite lucky.

Now really, it's not all luck, many of these teams pack it in or play counter attacking styles and with more numbers behind the ball, perhaps it's tougher to convert those mistakes into goals..no sure. Goalkeeping might be a help as well, there are some pretty good players at the top IMO.

Anyways, thought it was worth posting.
Technically, every goal is the result of a mistake, whether it is a misplaced pass, poor positioning, failing to make a tackle etc.
I dont know the stats, but I would guess most teams which hoof it from the back (yes, I am looking at you kopites) will tend to make less defensive errors than teams trying to play it out. I know which i would rather watch.

To be honest we have had some horrendous decisions against us,real game changers,i can't recall a really dodgy decision actually going for us although I'm sure someone will put me right on this,in this city we truly are the yang to the kopites ying!!!

I'm confused, so I can't post a thread like this? Why not just ignore it? I made it clear what is was.

Clearly Wolves have been fortunate.
Yes you can. It's proper foodie discussion. Some of the lads have just lost their heads and ain't thinking straight.

I would agree we have been on wrong end of some amateur officialdom, however, that does detract from the very bleeden obvious, a lot of what I see from Everton currently, well, don't see actually is there is more energy and guile in a over 70s walking football team.
