Please describe a scenario in which you need the police and they effectively help you, and further, please keep to real life rather than rehashing the plot of one of the countless police dramas from film and television.

Wasnt me, but a good friend.

Her husband was killed in a motorbike crash. Young family, instant death. The police from the initial telling her, then the victim support, and help with all sorts of stuff a young widow would not have a clue about was brilliant.

Ok, last year my Son was having an issue with a former friend of his, a much older guy.

He was making threats about burning the house down and coming to the house, so my son rang the police, he was given a restraining order and not allowed in our street. 1 day he walked down our street just as we were coming out, he screamed abuse at us, so I followed him, after I gave him a good hiding he rang the police, who promptly arrested him cos he hit me over the head with a stick. He was prosecuted and we were due to go to court, I declined the court case, due to feeling that I had got my justice.
Your son didn't get the restraining order from the cops, but from the courts. The cops' contribution was arresting the former friend, but only after you'd already dealt with him directly to your own satisfaction (satisfaction sufficient to allow you to blow off the subsequent court case as superfluous) by giving him a thrashing. These coppers seem to have been of little use in this scenario.

I hope your son won't be troubled by the goon in future.

But without the Police, there wouldnt have been a court.

They had never bothered me until a few years ago. CBA going into it, but 3 policemen and 1 policewoman basically assaulted my mum, and she ended up in court. Cant stand them now.

Never had to call them, but I work with a fella whos house got robbed and they done next to nothing.

And also, I wasnt aware my son had rung the police in the first place, for the record, he kept it all secret cos he thought I would be a bit peed off he was bringing trouble to the house, so tried to deal with it himself.

Think this was in the Viz or something, about things ya do when you get a bit older, but kinda sums up my current view towards the fuzz.

NODDING AT COPPERS - A moments eye contact is all it takes for you to share the unspoken bond. "We've not seen eye to eye in the past", it says "but someone's got to keep the little scrotes in line".

You sir are an idiot.

You have no idea how a restraining order works.

Who do you think starts the process of the restraining order and all that it involves.

Due to civil liberties, they aren`t an easy thing to get ( and quite rightly so ).

The police have to gather a mountain of evidence, to support a restraining order, in order to be presented before a court and for the application to be successful.

This will include, statements from the victim, any witnesses, witness statements from attending officers, any medical eveidence, evidence from housing

associations of damage to property, CCTV evidence, police logs, evidence from Social Services etc.

They are normally handled by specialist and highly trained police officers, from departments, like Family Support Units / Domestic Violence units, who work in tandem with a specialist solictor, from the CPS, who is an expert in this field of law.

They are not and easy thing to get and take a long time to get, from start to finish.
