Has Martinez reverted to type?

I have to conclude that many Everton fans, or at least those that post on here, suffer from mid to long term memory loss.

We have been in a far worse position at this point of the season many times in previous years. Moyes had us 16th at one point after 14 games.

You cannot ever judge a season after 14 games.

We may well be 16th after 16 games as we are now closer to the bottom 3 than top 4, with two away games id be surprised if we even get one point from!

All I know is that for 90% of this season we have been dreadful. All of this school of science stuff on its way back is a million miles away from the truth. If regularly going in to the last 10 minutes of home games needing a goal for a draw or win and wasting half that time passing it in our own half and back to Howard is likely to give us an advantage then I am missing a trick. We laugh at the RS for being deluded and lapping up the Gnashers spin. We'll get real, what has been served up this season is as dull and disjointed as the days of Walter.

I think tactically he's sacrificed some of our attacking intent to stop us bleeding goals like we were at the start of the season. Didn't really have a choice. If we can manage to get everyone fit we'll find a balance.
Zirc your bob every prick was moaning because we got beat 6-3 by Chelsea. We need some of that attacking prowess now against most team, but our pragmatists stumped bobbys growth.

I hear what you're saying, but at a certain point we had conceded 16 goals in 7 matches. That was unacceptable and something needed to change. We need to get back to that without sacrificing our stability at the back, but it's very difficult with Stones and McCarthy out.

Also I think we really miss someone like Pienaar who can pass through a packed defence. Baines and Coleman can do it but not on their own.

I've said before the jury is still out on Martinez

It will be for a few seasons, especially when the Moyes brigade are replaced by his own signings, that's when you'll see what he really is as a manager

When wigan went down the cup was the priority, they lacked desire and leadership on and off the pitch and when they attacked they put nobody in the box and looked lost very much like us now.
I was watching sky sports years the other day and it was weird watching wigan under martinez just the same as us this season with a little less passing in their own half.

Keep the faith - RM has got it wrong this season he has to get a full fit squad to get back on track and stop picking names for his team and fetch the youngsters in gradually - the Europa was always going to drain resources without our bad injury list!

No

Its not a million miles away. Lack of confidence, injuries to key players for long periods of time, players playing when clearly not 100% match fit and too many needless changes. If you're seriously comparing these days to the walter days, then you're suffering from severe memory loss. One defeat in 10 does not sound equal to the Walter Smith days.

Yes we are playing like a side that is clearly low on confidence but that can all change in the blink of an eye, something dramatic that can kick start a season. It's what happens in football and we've done it many times before. Right now its a confidence issue and it just needs a spark; you'll be quite surprised what a tiny bit of confidence does to a team.

I think the biggest issue is that the backup players are absolutely garbage, and thanks to the Europa League they're being relied upon far too often.

Trying to play your way through a tight defence right up until the bitter end is very commendable, but when Leon Osman and Aiden McGeady are the ones attempting to pick the lock it's unlikely to result in a goal.
