Has it all gone a bit wrong?

I said before in another thread, you should have your doubts and concerns as we probably all have. But we should also acknowledge the positives and try not to breed negativity as to give Martinez a chance.

I mean, when does blindly shouting down all critiscm get silly?

"How DARE you have a go at Martinez for us being bottom of the table when he's only had half a season in the job!"

"How DARE you have a go at Martinez for us losing to Liverpool 4-0 when it's only his first Derby!"

"How DARE you have a go at Martinez for selling Fellaini and buying 7 Wigan players. Wigan only went down because these players didn't play that much last season anyway!"

"How DARE you have a go at Martinez for us getting relegated for the first time since the 1950's when he's only had one season in the job!"

And so forth

When will it be okay to criticise him? Can someone send me a memo when it's okay? Cheers lads

Try to focus on facts and reality for a moment.

We are not in the bottom half of the table

We haven´t lost 4-0 to Liverpool

Martinez has not sold Fellaini and bought 7 Wigan players.

Martinez has certainly not gotten us relegated.

If any of the above happens, by all means fire away with both barrels. Maybe though, try to support him at least until the real football matches begin.

Jesus christ, sorry guys, don't get your knickers in a twist. It was a genuine question.

I'm not trying to start a campaign to oust him from the club, you realise that yeah? Just got some fairly big concerns from what I've seen.

You may be mad if you think it's already gone wrong, but you're equally mad if you don't have concerns.

We're all out of practice with how to handle this new manager thing - so let's just ride it out.

Patience, lads. Patience. We'll know so much more in a few short weeks.

Actually i agree. In worrying. As Evertonians, we do a lot of worrying, it's what we do, like. But looking at our clueless centrebacks trying to Xavi it out of defence sheepishly until they pass it back to Howard for the hoof is excruciating - at times against Madrid we'd get closed down so quickly i'd cringe, and there was that one pass Howard miskicked pretty badly, had it not hit his other foot it'd gone in as an own goal.

And you know what, when we're 2 down against Norwich away, looking at our CB's clumsily rolling the ball between them and Osman in the 79th minute, you're gonna feel like crying.

So what, the long hoof is the only thing that´s viable for Everton?

None of these things have happened. If they do, I promise you and Bungle won't be the only ones criticizing him.

It's fine to critique him from the moment he signs a contract, but a reasonable critique should be supported by evidence. Right now, the evidence against Martinez is very slight, as we've just played 3 world-class clubs and faired okay while playing a completely new system that the players are still adjusting to. Also right now, as many have said, we haven't played a single competitive game, so you lack that evidence to support your criticism as well.

To answer your question, it is okay to criticize Martinez right now IF he gives you something concrete upon which to base your criticism. Until we play at least one competitive game though, I can't think of anything Martinez could do to warrant criticism unless he plays leon osman at goalkeeper or something similarly ridiculous.

I must be nuts ... I thought we looked pretty good in most games aside from of course the last game which was a hideous mess (but that happens to the best of them). I certainly expected it to take longer than a handful of pre-season games to change the way the team plays. So far, if anything, I'd say we look ahead of schedule.

Yeah there have been a few moments of confusion but guess what? That happens all the time even without changes. It's just if nothing has changed you chalk it up to pre-season rust; if we've made changes and have a new manager then its a fundamental flaw in tactics.

No worries from me yet. I'm fairly happy with how things have gone thus far.

Embarrassing. Moyes has lost 2 and drawn 1 of his first five pre-season games against crappy opposition, not the likes of Juventus, Valencia, and Real Madrid. Lets get him back.

I'd also like to point out that prior to this season we'd tended to play utter gash football for the first half of the season under Moyes anyway, so i'd give Martinez until at least Christmas. If the guy who had been in the job for 6 years still couldn't get us playing good football from the start of the season it seems a bit harsh to expect Roberto to do so, doesn't it ?

'course not, but the overly sophisticated game makes for a foolish sight when it's not played optimally, and we're gonna look proper silly and toothless, like, backpassing from midfield.

Learning curve per chance. After a decade of hoofing it we might need more than one pre season to learn to play a bit more cultured.

Nobody is saying that Brennan. We are just voicing serious concerns we have over the ability of the team to fit into the managers system. That's what a forum is for.
