What was your opinion on Alcaraz when we signed him ?
What was your opinion on McGeady when we signed him ?
What was your opinion on Niasse after he made his debut ?

Etc etc etc

Is the perfect response ;)

For every Gueye we have had ten Mike Millikens.

For every Coleman we have had ten Gery Mullans (look him up :))

It is just not good enough to think that because we unearthed a rare gem from a relegated team or took a speculative punt on a young player from the Irish leagues that we should stifle reservations about players making huge steps up in class forever more.

Because the chances of lightening striking more than once are very slim.

True, but neither should we dismiss every player simply because they are not £60M each. Both responses are just lazy.

No, we shouldn't.

But anyone following not only Everton but any major football club knows that these speculative signings come off only rarely so to be enthusiastic about us being in for Maguire, Coco, Deeney et al is to ignore the reality of most signings of this ilk.

Before you give your opinion on the player each poster should have to answer a few simple questions , like :

What was your opinion on Gueye when we signed him ?
What was your opinion on Coleman after he made his European debut ?

There are plenty more that could be asked, it would be very revealing.

Be away with you, trying to be pragmatic.
G.O.T. has spoken.
We want somebody with an exotic sounding name, a huge price tag and a boss YouTube vid or GTF Koeman, Walsh and Moshiri.

I'm just as guilty, I shudder at the thought of Deeney, all I am saying is it often a lazy response. Harry Kane was crap when out on loan at three different clubs, comes into a team that plays the way he needs, he becomes a prolific striker. I guess what i am saying is that you never know until they are here and you'll never marry a prince if you don't kiss a few frogs.

I won't actually diss a player I might be cheering in a few short weeks!

He is a hardworking serviceable player and is perfect for a lower-half of the table Prem team. But I think you'd be hardpressed to find anyone, who has watched him this year, who would think he is an ideal starter for a team with Champions League ambitions

This is more like it, reality bites.

From the lofty heights of getting linked to Van Dijk and then down to earth with a bump.

Wes Brown's looking for a club lol

Just going off the Hull v Everton games, he looked alright to me. Looked like an imposing center half who can play football. Just going on the few games I've seen, I don't get why people are drooling over Keane and dismissing this chap.
