Believe the idea was more box to box as Moyes would like. Derby had him deeper.

Preston sold how they saw him playing to Armstrong too. I would imagine part of the conversation was, as you say , a more box to box role with them stating what is obvious, that their captain and one of their best players is in the deep lying midfielder role. A dream loan for Preston, knowing if Whiteman is injured then Armstrong could cover the deeper role too.
