2025/26 Harrison Armstrong

It's the Championship. Lots of extremely average premier league players absolutely dominate at that level. Having a good game in the championship does not make you pure class.

….its still a highly competitive league & I think what he did last season at Derby is quite remarkable.

His first real experience of open-age football and he’s chucked into the pressure of a relegation battle. Some achievement to become a regular starter, praised for his quality and composure. Already Preston’s captain has identified him as a special talent; footballers know. Captain of a star studded England U19 is another sign of his mind set.

He’s a proper player.

I think we have different expectations of what a proper player is. Let's wait until he has done something at a decent level before going over the top. I haven't seen anything from him which suggests he could be anything more than a bog standard premier league player at best (which is obviously a considerable personal achievement for him but not something that gets fans excited). There are other 18 year olds impacting games in the premier league. They might not make it either.

….a ‘bog standard PL player’ will be some achievement for the lad, it’s what the Academy players dream of. I don’t think anybody is pretending he’s going to be the next Stevie G La but the lad is a talent who has a real chance of a career in the top flight.

The boy is still only 18 years of age. Okay, he is playing in the Championship but as we thankfully did not find out it is a very hard league to play in and get out of. Clubs and players are all aspiring to get up into the Prem so there isn't a lot of room for error and it can be an extremely tough and unforgiving division for even well established and more experienced senior players. But, so far, he has applied himself really well and this is all part of his education. He will learn more at this level and his physique will develop over the next couple of years so when he eventually returns to us we will have a well rounded and versatile young player on our hands ready to kick on to the next level. Really think he will be our next Paul Bracewell and that's high praise.

Yep, that's why I said it would be a great achievement for him. But as a fan I can't get excited about us bringing through bog standard players. Hopefully he is better than that.

Don't limit him, he'll be at least as good as Colin Harvey.

Which 18 year olds are starting and impacted games in central midfield mate? And how much would they go for?
