Harmonica

I learned the basics a few years ago and can knock out a few melodies, among them Oh Susannah, although The Last Of The Summer Wine theme tune is what packs out auditoriums the world over.

Very rough guide but hole 5 is your 'home'. Work out a major scale from there (powerup hint: suckin and blowin) and the melodies should fall into your lap. The key of the harp shouldn't matter unless you want to play with others.

Oh, and it might be complete bullshine but I always preferred a wooden block over plastic.

The harmonica player in my band is a beast (he knows his way around a harp, he's not a sex offender), and if you all weren't such a bunch of weirdos I'd post a video to prove it.

Good luck!

went the music shop and asked how much their mouth organs were ..

the greb at the counter said , they had unfortunately just sold their last one to a little tubby girl whose birthday it was..

I said, oh not to worry , that must or been are monica...

First thing you need to know is that harmonica's come in different keys.

If you're just beginning, then your best bet is to get one in the key of C, which is pretty much straight done the middle.

If you're looking to play folksey Bob Dylan style music, then I think A is the way to go, or if you wanna pour your soul out old school blues style, then G is preferred.

I bought one in 'A' for Oh Susanna and one in 'G' for Heart of Gold.
Now its just finding the melodies.

My guitar skills are ok, just practise practise, then combine. :)

Last of the Summer Wine is now third on my list to learn!
Almost nailed Oh Susanna today as it happens. Heart of Gold needs work!

I ended up buying 2 harmonicas.
One in A for Oh Susanna and one in G for Heart of Gold.

I then splashed out on a brand new electric/acoustic guitar that was looking at me!
My plan is to practise a bit and then get an amplifier that goes all the way up to eleven!
It was heart of Gold that got me thinking about the harmonica
