I agree but the problem is you need a lot more than that from your central midfield pairing. There has to be a bit of invention; Sigurdsson and Delph offered none of that. They largely did the same job as eachother.

Agree mate, but in many ways we just needed they shape in the middle, it worked today. But against better teams we need much much more. Gomes and Gbamin cant come soon enough!

It was thr only way we could attack. The quality in the middle is not there. Sigurdsson is ill-equipped for any position in the middle other than pushed right up behind an attack / couple of attackers...and that was in his prime.

Without his tackle to win the ball back, Sidibés cross and Doms header doesn’t happen. Otherwise he was fine today. Not a solution in midfield, but he was far from terrible.

I thought he was better today and seemed to raise his game for Ancelotti but unless he suddenly transforms into Pirlo I don't think he will start much in coming years.

Great striker of a ball but always about two yards behind the game, in brain and body.

He battled hard today and won a few duels in midfield, but he clearly either needs to improve or Carlo will reinforce midfield pretty quickly.

That said, if he plays CM I think he'd look much better with Gbamin or Andre Gomes as a CDM behind him.

We need to vary the set pieces a bit. Siggy plonking it in the box doesn't seem to be producing much. I suggest short corners and one-twos instead. I'm sure Mr Ancelotti has this in mind.
