Because there actually isn’t anything there that we haven’t seen from nearly every other player at some point. What does he do that other players can’t? What does he do that makes him stand out as one of our best players?

I never said he 'stood out' as one of our better players or 'did anything none of our other players can't do' but for me he's easily on that team sheet with our current squad, there's plenty of room for improvement from him and I think he's been decent so far this season but for those who come on here and consistently give one of our more productive players stick just to suit your agenda every time we don't win is nothing more than being a bit tedious as we're already aware of who the main posters are in this thread and what their stance is without being reminded every time someone posts a positive post about him. It's my opinion that he's a decent player well worth having here, if you disagree that's fine.

I've said it before mate, a certain small group of people have this really weird agenda against him based purely on his transfer fee and the fact that they bummed off a young player in his position who hugely disappointed then pissed off away from his 'boyhood club' and are still clearly hurting from it.

He`s an above average player, who scores the odd worldee mate, that really is all there is to it.

For some reason Koeman had a hard on for him.

I hope he does much better this year, with the way Silva sets the team up and better players around him, but ( imo ) he`ll never be anything other than an above average player.

That's not too far away from where I am on him so let me ask you how many other 'above average' (I'd call him decent) players do we have to help us out in this Squad, personally I don't count too many.

I’ll be honest mate, it just really irks me having our £45m star man repeatedly disappear for entire games of football against poor teams that he should be taking the piss out of, contributing to us failing to win the game, and then having people come on here and tell us about his undoubted quality like we’re idiots for criticising him. He hasn’t done enough to warrant such a staunch defence in my opinion, and I feel it’s simply due to his price tag and people being desperate for him to be worth the money.

Sigurdsson is certainly high on the target list for criticism on this forum, along with about 4 or 5 other players. Some of the criticism is valid; it has to be as they are not perfect; some is just obsessive hammering at one individual by some. Maybe it is a general thing resulting from decades of relative decline and disappointment, which contrasts sharply with RS fans who seem to hero worship most of their players even though they never win anything either. I only say that on the evidence of my friendship with a few of them. I never visit their fans websites. I believe GOT is far more regularly used than the other main Blue web forums, and the player slagging on GOT is in a class of its own, and I think has become excessive. I admit I have done a bit of slagging off myself. Just saying.

Look back over the last few pages and it's pretty clear. Infact, you could probably got back to the start.

Also, just for the record, you'll find that my comments on him in here have been very level and fair compared to most. When he has a bad game I've called it out, I'm not one to blindly sing his praises all the time. I just call it as I see it - to me it's just clear that he's a very good player and one of the best at Everton. Some of the criticism he gets from the same set of people borders on outright trolling.

There is no agenda at all. I’ve said repeatedly I’m desperate to be wrong about him, he played well against Southampton and I was one of the first to come on here and acknowledge it. I know for a fact the other lads you’re referring to are coming from the same place.

That's fair enough, he hasn't lived upto the price tag so far, I really can't argue with that and he has a long way to go before he does but I think he's a decent player who' s worth his place and is capable of improving on that, we have a lot worse players than him as well who cost a fortune and were never capable, all my opinion of course.
