Why?

Because it's associated with nazism and white supremacist groups. So called 'Volkisch' lettering.

I would have thought the Norwegians given their recent history of being attacked by such people would have steered clear of such bunkum.

Apparently not.

I know it's the Mail, but even so: when you're right, you're right.

The Nazis used Antiqua typeface. If you're looking for an anti-fascist font, look no further than Bauhaus (not used by any national team as far as I cam tell) or the Wim Crouvel inspired fonts used by the Dutch national team.

The fact that some white supremacist groups have appropriated Nordic imagery or certain typefaces doesn't make every use of them racist or Nazi-related.

Context matters and extremists don't get to claim ownership of an entire culture's history and symbolism.

They also made use of the 'mysticism' of 'Aryanism' and runic lettering fits into that. It's an extremely controversial subject and the use of it in conjunction with photo-shoots of 'Viking raiding parties' (which the British photographer took and admitted was going to cause controversy...but still did it anyway) and their fans doing 'the Viking row' in the stands is dodgy as anything.

Besides, FIFA last year told the Norwegians that their U-20 team had to bin that runic lettering through it lacking legibility.

So why are they allowing it now?

Besides, FIFA last year told the Norwegians that their U-2o team had to bin that runic lettering through it being lacking in legibility.

So who are they allowing it now?
Wild BS.
