What exactly is the reason? Unsportsmanlike conduct ?
Yeah, unsportsmanlike and could be seen as goading, especially for winning goals and stuff.

Apparently wasn't that much of a rule (or that enforced) but when sponsorship money became big again - it started being enforced.

I'd get it if a player removes his shirt and they have an indecent message or something on the undershirt, but in general - meh, who cares.

Madness.

By all means, punish political messages on t-shirts if you must, but tearing off your shirt because you’ve just scored the winning goal against Brazil in a World Cup is an expression of purest joy, likely a career pinnacle.

Let the guy do it.

Sorry, wasn’t aiming that at you - just the rule!
Yeah I came off wrong there - didn't get offended or nothing, I'm with you on this - not arsed about the act, especially in a situation as tonight it's just joy ffs.

A while back remember a player removing his shorts as a sign of protest, as technically that's not illegal as the rule at the time only said shirt or something lol

Nah, way earlier.

But that blammo deserved it though.

That resulted in Forlan having to play bare-chested for a little while and footage of the striker holding his top in one hand while making a tackle near the touchline will always be funny.

Magnificent stuff. Unfortunately, the killjoys over at FIFA didn’t find it hilarious and decided soon after the incident that a player should be punished with a yellow card for removing their shirt in celebration.

To be fair, I’d love to see Maupay pull his pants off and swing them round his head on Boxing Day if it meant he’d scored!
