French rely on tear gas and pepper spray far far too much. Rather than actually controlling crowds. French police treating it like their weekly strikes and immigrant protests than a major sporting event.

There's been trouble before the Germany/Ukraine game as well and apparently the German authorities know of up to 150 hooligans that have travelled to Lille.

It begs the question why on earth were they allowed to trave and you almost wonder if security services across France have been so worried about Terrorism that they they've missed the threat of hooliganism.
