Now that is a damned excellent article. Bringing some home truths to Germany.

Take us after the WW2 we were in a hell of a state, as I recall we did not get the help that Germany did.

In hindsight Hitler would have loved the channel tunnel to invade us its all ifs and buts , and pots, and pans its the banks in Europe who have created this Euro!
Thank God Brown refused to join it when others in our parliament were wanting too!

Great post!

Lend/lease only finished a few years back. Plenty of our technological innovations (Including supersonic technology) was handed over to the yanks under the pretence that they'd 'share' what they knew. Yeah, right. :dodgy:

We played a blinder with Chobham Armour though. ;)

Imagine if the yanks had voted to speak German all those years ago. Might be a very different Europe/World we live in today.

The Marshall plan?
they lent us 4 billion plus, only just paid back , we actually got more aid than the Germans from the USA , i just like having a pop at them, we were actually were owed more than we got off them by other counties, but as we were near bankrupt from the first/ second world war we didnt have the room to maneuver, we should have withdrawn from the empire at the time and rebuild .

They gave us a load of old pre-WW1 rustheaps (so-called 'liberty ships') & charged the earth for them, as well. And, IIRC, I don't remember much help trying to stop the exocets from getting into Argentinian hands during the Falklands - or asking permission to invade Grenada.

Confused with last bit mate " we should have withdrawn from empire..." ?

Yep, you got it there Edge. It took us about 4 decades to finally pay off debts to the Yanks, not many folk are aware of this.

Now we are getting to the root of the issue, i.e. the banks. Not the EU and the euro.
Yep. Although it would appear that member states felt it was okay to bail out their own banks who were ridiculously irresponsible in their lending to Greece. They won't however accept that in doing so, it was they who were making the big mistake. All well and good blaming the Greek government, but it's serious deflection from the root cause.

A lot of stuff there edge, if I may expand taking them in order from top to bottom.

1, part of ww2
2. literally forced on us by the UN or a similar body after ww2
3. not sure of that one,
4. the whole west had that not much in the way of fighting though
5. Part Empire but keeping the communists out
6. damned UN thing and got tangled up in it thanks to the Yanks
7. pure trying to keep the empire and deny independence
8. basically as above
9. ditto
10. not sure on that one, again Empire job?
11. protecting empire
12. ditto
13. ditto and deny independence.

But back to the Greek biz, heavens knows how this will pan out. Could say battle lines have been drawn in the Eurozone.

60% of your company's revenues are in Euro's, Euro had fallen by 10% v Sterling since January 1. A hedge would have saved your 6% drop in total revenues....

That's OK if you're a multi billion of million £ company. i.e. Large.

Go and see what the commission recommendations on micro/small and medium sized SME businesses say.

Medium sized companies aren't that large.

Hedged currency exchange isn't appropriate for all businesses.

Particularly when we're supposed to be part of a European "common market" and therefore supposed to have CHEAPER business costs.
