KK: What difference has Roberto Martinez made to your game?
SC: He likes me to get forward, wants me to score goals. I remember the first game of the season and at half-time he showed me a bit of TV and said ‘you might get in here when Bainesy crosses’ and I scored my goal in the second half because I took a chance and maybe I wouldn’t have done that last season.

yes lad!

Reading the bit about him being shocked at the gap in technical ability when he came is interesting, as when he broke through I was worried he was too much of a headless chicken - as likely to run into a player as beat him - but obviously its clear in every game he has come on leaps and bounds with his control, positioning and decision making. His growth is amazing and its rare you see it so clearly in a player, that Cronaldo attitude to be the best they can. Whatever skills gap that was there then is definitely gone now.

I also wonder if Killer Kilbane felt a bit embarassed listening to that bit, and regretted possibly never trying to improve on having close to the worst touch I have ever seen in top level football.

I'm sorry to say I've seen far worse in a blue shirt, wearing the armband as well the little yes man

Oh Phil and Hibbo are pretty bad, but Zinedine Kilbane I had to suffer in an Irish shirt also. He set the record for most consecutive full caps for Ireland. All whilst barely being able to trap a ball. I sat in Landsdowne Road in one game, and I swear...he was out on the touchline at fullback...no opposition in a dangerously close position and when the ball was dropping out of the air he tapped it out for a throw...instead of risk his first touch! Ive never seen anything like it before or since. Like something a safety first fullback with do in a kids team.

Anyway,,,off topic.

Seamus is amazing. Next watch videos of Zabaletta and improve your crossing!

Clearly something else you don't rate about KK....he was a decent pro, certainly better than many I've seen over 40-odd years in the RBJ.

And, by the way, Seamus is better than Zabaletta this season in all aspects. There, I said it.

Everybody knows he was a decent pro and I met him once in Dublin. He is a lovely genuine guy. Played his heart out for Ireland and was a dedicated guy.

That doesn't change my opinion of him for Ireland. I watched every game he played. Less so for Everton really as to be honest I don't think I saw a huge amount of games in that period.

Seamus is getting good at picking out his man once he gets in the box and cuts back, but he has no decent range of delivery from wide whether by the box or just outside. Zabaletta is at the top level for that, as he is one of the few players who will make a goal from nothing by hitting in a pinpoint cross. Its almost a dying art though...

I wouldn't swap them though, thats true.

And to think we maybe only spotted him cos Mick Doherty was watching his son Sean play for Sligo, the kid that left us at 17 for Fulham and was supposed to go on to great things. Weird how things pan out in the end.

Laughing at that Robert McDonald bloke shoving Seamus out the door without ever seeing him play. He will become the footballing equivalent of that bloke who gave away The Beatles. :D
