Interesting first programme of three detailing the origin and rise of British fascism before WW2. Apparently Dorset was a hotbed of fascism. lol Features Mosley at his big rally at London Olympia, as well as how the threads of Imperialist angst, post war discontent, anti-semitism, the fear of communism and the suspicion of the foreigner combined to produce a distinctive British Fascism.
Next week focuses on fascism after the war.

A journalist's recollections of life in Albania after the fall of communist dictator Enver Hoxha. Mixing the present and past it makes a fascinating and very interesting listen.

On BBC Sounds.

The Essay In Albania

Episode 1 of 5

It's the mid-1990s, Albania is in turmoil after decades of communist isolation. Drawn by the mystery of a country she knows little about, Joanna Robertson sets off to go and live there. In a used car and with only essential equipment, all bought with a business loan thanks to an understanding bank manager, she buys a one-way boat ticket for a place that she only has second-hand knowledge of, gleaned from an almost-empty Albanian shop in London's Covent Garden and exiles in a Soho coffee shop.
