The general consensus from those in the NXT hierarchy were that he wasn't doing enough off his own back to stay in shape, and unlike Kevin Owens or Samoa Joe, he couldn't hide it as being "part of his gimmick"

I'm very impressed that he moves so well for being a man that big to be honest. If he could actually slim down again I think he'd be a major star in WWE, because his work is excellent

If he'd remained for a bit longer when NXT really started taking off, he probably would have been a featured player

When CM Punk originally pitched the idea of The Shield, he wanted it to be Ambrose, Rollins and Hero, but WWE decided to go with Reigns instead and he was let go not soon after

So a combination of bad luck, falling out of shape and his face just not fitting at the time
