When he won the KOTR in 96, he wasn't really that over, but they stuck with him during that period. He got over when he started cutting promos on Bret Hart, as a heel, and then the WWF booked the double turn at Mania 13

Hogan came in and won the title right away in 84 and fans were fine with it

It's only recently that fans have started "rebelling" when it comes to this stuff

Texas tornedo won the IC title, not the Wwf title, big difference....

Austin only won King of the Ring because Triple H was being punished for the curtain call....I'd disagree he wasn't over during that time (he was a heel after all, but crowds were starting to pop for him)...also he also went through the IC title 'stepping stone' first...and when he won the wwf the fans wanted it...

Hogan rise was pretty quick I agree, although he did have a heel run before all that....Hogan had also worked elsewhere for a few years developing his character....
More importantly Hogan had charisma....a natural entertainer...Reigns has no charisma..

Yeah, the 2 differences between the examples Mikey gave and now are that the wrestlers involved were already well established or good enough to actually do well in the spots they were pushed in, and the crowd weren't a bunch of "smart marks" who think they know best.
 
Some websites reporting Cesaro needs surgery for a shoulder injury, and could be out for up to 6 months.....JR has tweeted about it too...

Hopefully it's not true.....wwe really can't deal with another injury (particularly someone as good as Cesaro) right now....and would be horrible timing for Cesaro himself
 
I'll give them credit, sticking the title on someone else will be better in the long run. Better to swap someone who they have a clean slate with rather than someone who everything was pointed at.

Be interesting to see how reigns is handled now, they realistically can't have him challenging all the way to mania and they can't have him win the rumble for the fear of it being stale.
 
New direction there going with then, I still would of liked to seen reigns heel turn on ambrose, then just dean be dean no stupid childish jokes just go on a rampage wins the rumble after coming in 1st battles against the odds and wins the title at mania against reigns, it will also help with reigns getting over with the fans in the long run he's took the pin in the main event at mania 2 years on the run
