GOT Wrestle Fest Fan Thread

I actually had the Invasion ppv on vhs, the hardcore title match between Jeff Hardy and RVD was very good, but there was also many poor matches.

I thought that was a very good PPV but the Invasion angle went downhill very fast after that. Thought the Angle v Stone Cold match was the best on that show.

I agree WCW going out of business was the worse thing to ever happen to wrestling. Were as risks used to have to be taken by companies, WWE will now quite happily plod along with someone as cringeworthy as Cena as a superman as long as he makes money.

I can see the point about WCW folding killing the industry but that's only because their replacement see themselves as WWE lite with a hint of ECW nostalgia. Honestly TNA could have been a great alternative if they had stuck to honing homegrown and Indy talent instead of picking up every WWE release

wcw was crap long before wwf bought it so i don't really blame that for the way wrestling has gone.....

older fans mightn't enjoy todays product, but it was necessary for wrestling to step back from the glory days of the Hulk hogan/warrior/macho man/Jake Roberts era, and also the Monday night wars attitude era....reason being, it was too dangerous for the wrestlers....

steroid abuse in the 80's and 90's, which did lead to powerhouse larger than life characters, also lead to several early deaths, and guys in rehab with drug and alcohol addictions....in the attitude era, the matches became more and more high risk just to one up the competition....and yes watching Foley get thrown off a cage was amazing, but it was crazy and impossible to keep topping....some of the TLC matches were insane.....ecw was damn right deadly... The Benoit murders was the sad example of the dangers of a life of concussions from high impact moves & chair shots and drug abuse....

all that aside, the other reason, which i also blame more than wcw invasion, was the decision to go PG.....again though its an understandable change as they needed to get kids watching again, as there's simply more money to be made...its meant promos have become too bland.....

The decision to go PG and improve the Wellness program was done because of the Benoit incident, had they not done so then wrestling would have been on its backside as every company from WWE to minor Indy feds would have likely had state licences revoked in the US and Canada meaning no bookings and no company revenue from merchandise

Favourite match ever peeps? Angle/Benoit, Rumble 2003 is the one for me. Masterpiece.

Tough question really

I do really like Bret Hart Vs Steve Austin at Mania 13

Also love Bryan Danielson Vs Roderick Strong from ROH Supercard of Honour

Toshiaki Kawada Vs Kenta Kobashi had an excellent match in AJPW on the 12th June 1998 that was one of the best matches I've ever seen, so I'll go with that one right now, but it changes all the time depending on my mood anyway. These 3 are awlays constants thoughs

Hulk Hogan vs Andre the Giant 1988 Wrestlemania. He picked him up and bodyslammed him, FFS!

That was my first era of watching. Had another era in the mid-90's, then again in the early-00's. While impressed by the show they put on, nothing beats the high-drama and magic of watching as a kid.

Most memorable match was again from that first era, where this cowboy character took out a metal spindle and brutally sliced Brutus the Barber's forehead open! Blood everywhere...

And then some chump wanted to tell me WWF was fake!

Highlight for me was Kurt Angle's entrace

That was the moment where the fans really accepted him and took him to heart

I love the sell job of Shane McMahon as well. He'd been all cocky before Angle comes out but when he does he becomes much more serious and sells that he's worried about what Angle can do.
