Very sad news - after 23 years, Power Slam, the U.K. monthly wrestling magazine is closing down. The last issue, out at the end of this week, will be the final one. For the first 3 years it was called Superstars of Wrestling, then in July 1994, it rebranded as Power Slam.

Anyone who reads Power Slam, they need to check out Fighting Spirit Magazine. That's the sole surviving UK wrestling magazine now.

Classic Power Slam covers:

Sting won't be on Raw... or at least in person. It'll be a WWE2K15 promo as one of the featured wrestlers as he's signed to a legends contract.

Yawn.

That's a really weird thing to do though in my head.

Like why get excited about a wrestler being in a WWE game who has never been in a WWE ring!?

Powerslam was like the bible when i was younger, couldn't wait for the last Thursday of the month (or whatever day it came out). But with the internet and general drop in quality it just wasn't relevant anymore, surprised it lasted as long as it did.

And how poetic that John Cena is the very last cover given the ridiculous Cena bashing they took part in all the time.

Think i've probably still got all the early issues in a box somewhere.

Best thing about it was introducing me to a world of wrestling outside WWF and WCW, particularly buying ECW and Japanese garbage feds from tape traders advertised in the back.

It's a shame, and I'm a long time reader of the magazine of 16 years, but the last couple of years Fin has been writing in that mag like he has lost his passion for American wrestling, particularly the constant digs at the McMahons, Triple H and John Cena. I do hope though that he or some of the mag's contributors start up a new magazine but with the focus on the BritWrest scene, capitalising on the ever growing popularity of PCW
