No, he just point blank refused because he left WWF in disgust back in 1988 over the massive amount of steroids everyone was using. He's been massively outspoken over the years about the drug abuse in WWE and over the Attitude Era product that he considered filth in the late 1990s. Only recently he had an exchange of words with Steve Austin, who Sammartino doesn't like (and Austin, likewise). This is a guy who hasn't given a **** for 25 years and has openly criticised Vince everywhere.

Apparently Triple H is the one who managed to persuade him that things have changed, and he's returning to do the Hall of Fame, and also appear on various DVDs and do other projects for them. Sammartino still hasn't spoken to Vince in 25 years.

Sammartino is a real big deal, massive coup for WWE. He's going to be the main person getting inducted this year, even more than Foley, Backlund and Stratus, and he'll sell out MSG due to his name and his history in New York.

You can't do anything else with him because his contract stipulates he only does 3 matches a year, and a handful of tv dates.
He's also not a very good talker, which is why they originally brought Heyman back to do his talking for him.
All he has to do is beat the crap out of people in angles and stay strong, ready for whatever his next big match is (HHH at WM29).

Besides, who really... really.... really... would get tired of this?(y)

Mark Lawrenson's Premier League predictions

BBC Sport football expert Mark Lawrenson is pitting his wits against a different guest each week this season.
His opponent for the latest round of Premier League fixtures is wrestling legend Hulk Hogan.

Hogan, who has been in the UK on tour with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, says he has never heard of Lawro but has done his homework and is predicting "a massacre - the highest scoring game ever".
The 59-year-old grappler thinks leaders Manchester United will "squash" Everton, expects Stoke to beat Reading "because they are at home and their girlfriends will be watching" and backs Chelsea to thrash Wigan by a record score, saying "it's going to be like an NFL game, the score is going to be sky high".
