Well I really didn't think that whole World of Sports show was that bad. It had some decent matches and some good spots. I'd love to see it find a regular slot on ITV even if it was just to showcase the massive amounts of amazing talent we have on the independent scene here. I doubt it will happen though sadly.

Wash your mouth out! How many have you seen to come to that conclusion?! Japanese woman's wrestling is on a whole different level. Just like pretty much anything within Japanese wrestling.

I've watched enough

Look at that match I posted earlier, textbook Joshi

Give me Bayley Vs Sasha at NXT Brooklyn over any Joshi match ever

I watched Dream Slam all the way through once as I'd been told how great it was. Literally every match was the same

Lol, not much different to the "I chop you, you chop me, i drop you on your head, you drop me on your head" crap the men do for an hour at a time.

There's at least some variety in the male matches

Outside of maybe Hokuta, all the women are interchangeable IMO, even the good ones like Toyota

I just don't get why Joshi is put on such a pedestal, especially by adult men

It's core audience is 13 year Japanese old girls who want to go and shriek at women in wacky outfits doing dropkicks

I just don't see the appeal, I really don't

There's no hope for you mate. If you seriously rate Bayley Vs Sasha better then almost any Japanese womans wrestling match I don't know what to say. All about opinions I suppose and life would be very boring if we all agreed on everything so we are gonna have to agree to MASSIVELY disagree on this one.;)

Regarding the point you added in about its audience you couldn't be more wrong. The whole feel of wrestling in Japan is incredibly different and the appeal of woman's wrestling isn't restricted to one group because the bulk of them have actual talent that most people recognise.

You say that mate but during the heyday of Joshi in the country it was massively targeted at young women, especially when the Crush Gals were on top

I've read stuff from Meltzer where he'd go to these shows and the building would be packed with teen girls (And Meltzer loves Joshi and has given Toyota something like 8 ***** match ratings, but even he knew what it was)

Yes, other people do and did like it, but it's a niche audience, certainly these days where everything but New Japan really struggles to draw

The only time Joshi was ever really super big and doing amazing business was when they had the young teen girls coming in their thousands to watch and buy merch

I won't deny it's not athletic, but to me it's always just been an exhibition of moves, certain exceptions aside

Bayley Vs Sasha in both their bouts told great stories as well as having big moves

Just my opinion at the end of the day

I always feel Joshi fans are exceedingly elitist and never give western woman wrestlers their due

I'll never forget Mickie James Vs Trish at Mania 22. It was a great match but not seconds after the refs hand hit the mat for three, people were online saying how crap it was compared to Joshi wrestling. For the time frame, that match was excellent

I know I'm in the minority here when it comes to "smart" fans, but I just don't like Joshi and think it's overrated. I can appreciate why others do, but it's not for me

Meltzer talks crap mate and always has. Nearly everyone he's ever encountered in the business thinks he's a no nothing joker. Plenty of stuff in Japan draws outside of New Japan, its just that nobody other than Hardcore fans outside of Japan know about it. Plenty of shows get massive gates that never get mentioned. Sasha and Bayley wouldn't last a month on the Japanese circuit.

That's patently not true mate, many people in wrestling respect Dave, even if they all don't like him (And many don't for obvious reasons)

Which Joshi company is doing amazing business at the moment?

Stardom has a decentish following, but they aren't running big venues

Joshi is about as big as Dragon Gate

It's a niche product

GAEA was great for me. You still had the great wresting but you had proper storylines to go with it.

Also Sakura Hirota is my favourite person ever which helped.
