Google's 'jarg' version of Facebook and Twitter.

... But Google have, well Google's Search Engine. If you use Google's social media, you'll feature more prominently on their Search Engine.

They're Blackmailing us really.

I like their style.

Its a mixture of both. But doesn't have the instant messaging of twitter or the popularity of Facebook.

However, its is great for blog and forums as I like the design. The + feature is a great quick hit button. You can have group hangouts and video conferencing too.

If it gained more popularity there's loads you can do.

Its just isn't popular.

It has some benefits for authors as you can easily (well, kinda) have anything you publish listed under your G+ account. Not sure about the gains for businesses though, although some have made a go out of it. As a football community, if you gave me 1 hour a day to promote the site on social media I wouldn't spend it on Google+.

I mean YouTube also gives you a search rankings boost (via universal search), and that seems a better fit for football stuff, but of course it means having to produce content, which isn't easy.

Seem to recall there being something for Drupal that let members upload videos to your YouTube account, but not sure if anything similar exists for vB. Fan vids would take the effort out of creation, albeit give you less control over quality.

Re the hangout feature, that'd be really useful if the club were not quite so backward and would give us access to some of the players/staff to host Q&A sessions with. It's really easy to save hangouts and upload them to YouTube.

This isn't going too well is it?

For a forum or community it's can add more to the website etc.

Post times of a hangout if you were doing a podcast/interviews etc. Get people involved. Link to other sources (like YouTube etc).

It can be used well. It's just not got a pulling power as of yet.

Google asked me to look at a Hangout feature - but as with YouTube, it's too content dependent. We just don't have the time/resource to produce anything.

Yeah, you'd need a good crew of folks ploughing into all that.

And again, the resources and time put into it, you have to look at the size of the audience going to view it/revenue it makes for it to be worthwhile.

It's a nice feature though
