Goodison Legacy

Wasn't there a campaign a while back to change Penny Lane's name? How did that un go?

Even if it'd be Adolf Hitler Docks the name should stay. Renaming won't erase history but will make it easier to forget the lessons.

The claims that Penny lane was named after James Penny were not correct, as it was called Penny lane, or derivatives of for years before he existed.

Downing Street is linked to the slave trade fgs don't fetch politics into our new ground....or stadia is it not going to be used for pop venues to?
We are turning a historical site into a modern setting if planning is finalised down in London let's move to our new stadia with our history as a club using it for all the correct reasons .....

Need to keep out all this politics, the truth is half or more in Liverpool is linked to the slave trade, don't tell BLM.

Lets stick to Football and in particular Everton.

On the Goodison Legacy, I think what they are doing is perfect. We don't need the existence of the stands to maintain a legacy, our legacy is the continuity and improvement of the community that surrounds us. The aspiration to have a world leading dementia research centre is something of note.

Lets not kid ourselves into thinking that Highbury was developed in that way because they wanted to maintain the history and dominance of the brick structures on the surrounding environment. They did it cause it was instantly more sellable and would bring a greater profit margin.

Memories of Goodison will only ever be memories of Goodison, whether she exists or not. Having a building that looks a bit like it used to, but with people living in it isn't the way that we should be remembering it in my opinion. I would much rather the land go to public good felt through multiple generations than to simply serve a memory of one a group of people across one generation.

Some may disagree, but I'm not really one for architectural taxidermy.

I understand and respect perfectly what you're saying, a nice combo of both would be nice, if there is something classy which can also help the club prosper with an an enhancement which is beneficial for the good of the community such as a dementia research facility would be awesome.

It was also because the East and West stands are Grade II listed, so knocking them down would have been next to impossible. I’m very dubious that the development would be so “respectful” if it wasn’t for that.

Arse**l still own Highbury I think, and profit from the flats.

Another one is Upton Gardens. Unlike Arse**l, West Ham just sold the plot to a developer. It's not bad in of itself, but you wouldn't know there used to be a football club there...

Hopefully it turns the entire city into a signal blackspot every weekend, causes every person in the city to periodically hear a “booooo” in the background as they’re going about their day, pumps out a constant cloud of curry sauce smell and somehow subjects every person in the city to the constant commentary I had to endure every single game from that knobhead who sat behind me.

Come on Rob, you're not getting away with it that easy, you've mentioned the gunners and the hammers, what have Spurs left in their wake or do you think because they've only moved next door the don't have to leave anything behind to remind the fans of White Hart Lane.

Haha, well there's a plaque in the ground in the south stand marking where the old centre spot was.

A club museum next to the stadium is meant to open at some point, covid has delayed that.

Another one, Brentford...

Brentford FC's Griffin Park stadium will be replaced by 75 family homes when the club moves to its new home in Lionel Road South....A collection of two to four-storey houses at the site was given the go-ahead by Hounslow Council's planning committee on Thursday (September 3)....Developers said the memorial garden, playground and orchard at the centre of the development had been designed to honour the ground's history. They told councillors how a respected landscape gardener, who has exhibited at the Chelsea Flower Show and is a Brentford fan, had even arranged the trees in a 4,3,3 formation as if they were players on the pitch.

:hayee:

I reckon we concrete over the pitch, and then turn the park end into a giant vape shop, the gwaldys into a giant bargain booze, the main stand into a giant ladbrokes and the bullens into a giant kebab shop
