If they do at least one of those things, then maybe the crowd will get behind them.

I get your point. But it's a Chicken and egg situation really. But then again, would you make your best effort for your boss if he were booing in your ear?

The fans still have the philosophy of winners; the team have not for a long time. That's the disconnect. And the fans are 100% right on this.

You saw people, en masse, chant for Niasse when he scored because it gave us something to react to - honest, real professional effort and the desire to do well. He didn't need a song from the crowd to perform; he did it himself.

When Everton do the right things on the pitch, Goodison bounces. And I don't mean "sing when we're winning" - we're anything but that. Stracqualursi is a cult icon just because he put effort in despite being gash.

Yes, the crowd aren't exactly knowledgeable about football to a massive degree - see the treatment of Barkley for example, which comes from loads of fans collectively not understanding what he does - but over the years we've also applauded technical effort like from Arteta, so it's not a "dogs of war" hangover either.

We are not the only club fanbase like this right now; in fact, the only teams that have "atmosphere" are the drum-beating weapons who I'd absolutely detest us to be.

No, the blame if you want to allocate it should go to two things - insipid footballers who have become overpaid and go through the motions - especially at a club like Everton when they've come her to retire, have earned their career high move and have no reason to perform further and/or just don't give a crap - and the state of the modern game itself.

When the team shows some desire to perform, we'll show desire in the stands. I'm not going to applaud mediocrity. In that respect, our motto still means something.

Probably the most right thing I've ever read on here.

Goodison, and perhaps the majority of Evertonians, do seem to have some sort of collective set of values when it comes to what we want to see on the pitch. Yes, ultimately we will take winning first over pretty much any kind of performance, but we know through many many years of collective experience that we don't usually win, and when we do those hard fought victories won through desire, determination and the willingness to defy the odds are among the sweetest victories.

Yes, we want to see great skill, vision and technique but these things are not needed to get the crowd going. If the crowd believe the team have desire to win, determination to overcome the opposition and see them showing some balls, working hard and playing with a bit of courage, then they'll be all the atmosphere any one could wish for.
 

A bit of commitment from the players and a couple of 'proper' tackles and the fans would be up for it. Not saying we should be putting in stupid challenges and endangering their players but a bit of controlled aggression (see Phil Neville Vs Ronaldo) and effort, would give the fans something to get behind. Goodison is always at it's best when there's a bit of needle.

Bournemouth last season when Lukaku scored in about 30 seconds. The crowd was lifted all game and I think it helped the atmosphere that it was a good game full of goals and Niasse was scoring for fun for Hull against the RS.
 
I'm not a booer myself, and don't think it's a good thing, but at the same time these clowns need to know this is unacceptable at Everton Football Club.

I'm not cheering them while they jog round bottling challenges and passing the ball sideways just so they don't have to shake a leg and do something themselves.

Do you want us to turn into some wool club who bang drums, regardless of the score line, to generate an atmosphere?

Or, we could sing an Everton song at the end of the game, just like Liverpool with Walk On, to show what super fans we are.

I totally agree.
I have been arguing with mates that we need to improve our overall performances as this will improve confidence and results will follow. I guess the same with the fans give us good performances and they will get behind the team.
At the moment the manager the team and the fans are flat...A scrappy win today will paper over the cracks. We need a confidence boosting win to get us going, we can only hope
 

It's an entirely different game for us though?

What I mean by that, if you look at ticket price vs average wage - we've probably got the highest game/wage ratios in the league.

People literally work to watch Everton, and when they see team put in yet another below par supporter they feel aggrieved - and rightly so.

I've been there when we've lost, and provided that the players actually tried the atmosphere has always been great.

It's just when the effort isn't there.
