I dont know why but I feel like watching Rory try to win at Augusta is the most invested I get in sport outside of football. Second year in a row I'm half asleep in work on the Monday morning after it.
The tournament always delivers. You could count on one hand the number of boring masters there's been in recent years. And one of those was because Scheffler was just far too good for everyone else.
Yeah, there is something about the Masters that other majors doesn't have. The Open definitely has an aura, with the history associated to it. The US Open is always a fun watch, watching the battle. The PGA is up and down. The Masters though, being at the same place, with the fans being respectful, the emptiness of the fairways, more or less just the players and caddies. Just invokes a special atmosphere.
As a Rory fanboy, I get invested with every major (and some of the bigger tournaments) he plays in. Seeing it live at the Irish Open last year is honestly one of the best memories I will ever have.
Onto yesterday specifically, it was all being said that the shackles would be off once he got the Masters. I think the rest of year, up until the Irish Open was a settling into his new world kind of thing. It wouldn't be Rory if there wasn't some drama in crossing the line, but that was a completely different golfer to pre-Masters last year.
Another major this year, would not put it past him. Although, hopefully he lets Tommy win the Open
