Morning Mr Goat

Good thread...my two cents.

Nine Sells (maybe not all this season) and we bring in a #1 Keeper, two centre mids, and an attacking midfielder and we are on the up. Branthwaite and Gordon saves us big money.

They’re the only players with the quality that we need going forward. All the other starting XI positions need replacing IMO. I know we won’t do it all in 1 window, will probably take 3-4, we need to start with the spine and work from there.

Try and sell the rest, whoever is left over can fill the bench.

:( :( :(

GK: Recoup the money spent on Pickford, Stekelenberg leaving, Virginia as back up, recall Lössl. New starter needed.

RB:
Coleman not good enough going forward, Kenny is back up for now. Sidibe not the answer. New starter needed.

LB:
Digne is quality; Nkoulou as backup. Position sorted.

CB: Holgate first choice starter, not convinced by either Keane or Mina; sell one & keep one as backup along with Branthwaite. New starter needed.

CM:
Where do you start with this? Delph, Davies, Sigurdsson, Baningime all not good enough; sell the lot. Gomes looks a shadow of his former self but there’s a top player in there so he stays. Gbamin: still undecided. Two new starters needed.

W:
Walcott, Iwobi, Bernard all not good enough. Can’t sell everybody though, so one (probably Iwobi) stays. Gordon a highlight of the season for me, but still raw. Two new starters needed.

ST:
Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin have had excellent seasons overall and Kean looked good against Bournemouth. Still need an extra body in there though if we’re playing two up top and / or DCL goes on another barren run. First team quality player needed.

All other returning loan players should be either sold or loaned out again.

The overhaul needed to improve this squad is frightening; the only positive is that there is still a bit of value in the players that we need to get rid of (Pickford, Davies, Sigurdsson, etc) which should help us balance the books.

Pretty much nails it this.

Left back is not sorted. That Nkounkou hasn't played a single minute of first team football and assuming he could step in if Digne missed an extended period and play week in week out is naive. IMO we've seen enough from Keane, Mina, Holgate and now Branthwaite to ride that out for one more year if need be so that we can sign a RB and LB instead. If something like signing Gabriel happens that is fine, but Branthwaite looking at least capable makes that less of a priority.

Realistically we aren't going to be signing 7 players this summer so something like a new striker and two new wingers is probably out of the question.

Still, whilst I agree with you regarding Neils being a risk at LB, they arent wrong in what we NEED.

Max Aarons can play RB or LB.

Having just got rid of that feller we could do worse than go for him.

If we're assuming we can only sign 5 players max for the first team, and have to then prioritize them, it becomes a more complicated conversation. Of course we need about 10 really good players, that isn't hard to figure out.
