Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson has hit out at the Football Association for overturning Frank Lampard's red card but slapping an extra game on Jeremie Aliadiere's ban for a 'frivolous' appeal.

Chelsea midfielder Lampard won his appeal on Tuesday against his dismissal in the 4-0 victory over West Ham and will not now serve a three-match suspension.

Gibson agrees that Lampard did not deserve to be punished but has accused the FA of having double standards.

Aliadiere was given his marching orders for a gentle tap on Javier Mascherano and Gibson believes that if the FA rescinded Lampard's red card because his actions were not violent, the same should have happened with the Middlesbrough striker.

"I am trying hard to make sense of it all. It astonishes me. The whole system is flawed," Gibson told the Daily Star.

"It was the right decision by the FA to take away Lampard's dismissal as TV evidence showed there was nothing violent.

"But how can the FA say that was any different to that involving Aliadiere?"

The FA has defended its decision on Lampard, with a spokesman telling The Times: "The FA treats all cases on their merits.

"We would refute any suggestion that one club is being treated differently to another."
This guy doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut does he?

perhaps now would be a good time for chairmen of lesser clubs to join in and condemn the FA, in the way they're showing blatant biased towards the top four clubs.

Got to say he's spot on in what he's saying here.

In a related matter, what are the odds that Joey Barton is banned from playing against Liverpool but will have his order changed by the time it comes to the end of the season and a certain match? (Although, to be honest, it doesn't bother me one way or the other if he plays.)

I've often wondered why sites such as ours cannot be linked to similar with other clubs to fight this crap, Gibson is a bloke who doesn't mince his words, he is a well respected chairman and believes that the FA are insulting our inteligence, which they are.

Can we find some way to act across the board because that is the only way our voices will be heard. Individual brinkmanship playing one off against the other, as the FA do has to stop, we should protest in some way, with all the other clubs outside the so called big four in order to bring fairness back into the game. We had it this year and in times long gone, Sheff Utd got it last term when the truth was evident, Boro must be fuming at this Lampard matter, its wrong it is corrupt!

makes me sick. Lampard shouldn't have been sent off much to my disappointment, but the blatant attitude to everyone else other than these 4 clubs we all love to hate is ruining/has ruined our beautiful game.

Notice how there is almost zero coverage of what is coming out about Tevez and Mascherano - we all should be interested in Cheryl Cole and Sean Cahill instead.

Bread and circuses.

Dead right Atr, I'm watching that with great interest, it has already explained why Golum went back to Iceland, there is a lot more to come and the FA are trying like mad to cover it up. Do you think a certain prominent FA member might have his grubby hands exposed?

the sooner sir trev has his position to dabble removed, the better for the game.

its not like west ham are part of the ''big three'' and he needs to acknowledge this.

That is so true, Newpapers don't do real stories anymore.
