The league cup is no Intertoto- it means something. Its an established competition and I dont get this why it doesnt mean something to get there. We have beaten teams to get to the semis and the tournament will give us a route into Europe, I dont give a monkeys if it was called The cuntish cup if it gets us into Europe I hope we go and win the [Poor language removed].

A day at Wembley and a Cup final, Im praying to the gods we make it. If we got there for the FA cup as while I'd be over the moon.

Does the league cup get you into Europe?

league championship
european cup
FA cup
uefa cup
....
...
..
.
league cup

argue with that order.

.

Thats not the point you've been making though is it? I'm sure no one would really argue with that order but you for some inane reason seem to be writing off the League cup as nothing. Pointless. Waste of time. Somehow below Everton and that we shouldn't even be in it.

Not that its the least important of the 5 trophies you mentioned.

I'm sure every Everton fan would prefer we won everything, but thats not gonna happen is it.

Should we not bother about the FA cup because its not the Premiership? No.

Should we not bother about the UEFA because its not the Champions League? No

And we are not gonna over the fact we have a damn good chance of winning the League cup.

Sure, we have had a lot of success in our time, numerous league and FA cup victories. But those days have (unfortunatly) been pretty much none existent in recent times. Hell we are lucky but grateful to still even in the top flight.

But does past success automatically mean we have to repeat it every year or be deemed worthless? No.

Would Leeds love a FA cup victory depspte it being beneath their Premiership win? Yes.

We were down in the dumps for a long while at this club but good times are on their way back.

Sure, a League cup victory isn't the greatest victory of all time, and we wont settle for 1 League cup victory alone in the next 20 years.
But right now its a trophy we've never won during a time when we dont win [Poor language removed] all so we are making the most of it, enjoying it and loving every [Poor language removed] minute of it.
And then i years to come we will enjoy every [Poor language removed] minute of Everton Football Club winning the rest of the trophies on your list :)

And to pick holes in the achievment of reaching a semi final for the first time in 12 years over what a competion has been called in the past is just dumb.

it might be dumb to you.

all this ''not the most prestigious'' and ''isnt the greatest victory of all time'' are both just understatements.

its an arsehole cup, that means nothing except more games. what really condemns it for me is that when the inbreds beat birmingham in the final, the euro place attatched to the competition was removed from finalists birmingham and transfered to the premierleague.

compare that with another cup, the FA cup, if the winners have qualified for europe in another manner (league placing) then the losing finalists get the euro qualifying place attatched to that competition.

the league cup is a watered down version of the FA cup, and the FA cup has suffered in recent years not least due to the then holders abstaining from the tournament to play in south america in some poxy profile building money spinner.

priorities.

its not just fifth on the list, its last.

if we win it, thats fine, a guaranteed route into europe, but it wont be any sort of everton apocalypse that re-announces us on the top footballing stage.

i wont be getting carried away just yet. call me dumb or whatever else if you like.

A knockout competition is a knockout competition and a trophys a trophy. Whats the difference if you win the FA cup or the league cup? You've won a cup playing English sides and thats all that matters. Its an achievement by the club to beat unbeaten in a competition.

You know what, who gives a [Poor language removed] about Euro2008, its a waste of the clubs money, its just another tournament giving a higher chance to injury and a higher chance to tired players at pre-season. Its a stupid cup, the world cup is the only real international trophy worth winning.

Now... I'd like to hear what the difference is between league and fa cup AND euro and world cup.

And if you think FA cup is also a mickey mouse cup then you really need to ask yourself, what knockout cup is worth winning? champions league? woopdeefucking doo.

Maybe I just get too annoyed about how people dont consider some cup competitions are very important and others are just waste of time. Anyway, thats what I think (y)

the world cup is superior as its been going for longer, it also has the worlds best sides (brazil and the argies) competing in it.

the FA cup has a romance and magic to it because so many sides can enter and amazing stories can and have been made. in 05-06 674 sides entered the FA cup.

the league cup, founded in 1961 allows only 92 sides to compete.

Since 1982, the League Cup has been named after its sponsor, giving it the following names:

The FA Cup is the oldest football competition in the world, commencing in 1871-72.

Myabe it doesnt mean anything but more games to you but to a hell of a lot of fans, players and the club in general it does. And if it means soemthing to Everton Football club it means something to me.

I still dont get exactly what your point is though. [EDIT] Ive just seen your above post and get it now : you think the league cup is a distant 5th place behind the other trophies. Well so does everyone else but everyone else realises its a hell of a lot of places above [Poor language removed] all, which is what we have won in the last 12 years!

I'm sure everyone agrees (as i did previously) thats its not on the level of other trophies at all, but its better than nothing.
Simple question, yes or no : would you rather we won nothing this year, or won the League Cup?
You seem to think everyone is treating this as the hihglight of out season and its all we ever wanted. No one is, we are enjoying it for what it is with the high hopes of more achievments in the new year.

If you can do that cool, but if you really really deem this as worthless despite everything ive said as to why no one else does then you can miss out while others enjoy it for what it is.

Im sorry but to some people the carling cup might be nothing, it might not be worth winning.

Im 17 and have supported Everton all my life, I've seen far to many lows, I was to young to remember the 1995 Fa Cup final, the greatest achievement for me was finishing above Liverpool and thats not good enough for a team as big as Everton, we should be winning silverwear and if this brings us a step closer to actually competing for trophies season in season out then im happy.

My dad tells me about all the greats hes watched, I love my Everton legends and he can see his hero as Alan Ball, but i didnt see those players but i respect what they did for the club.

What i see to heroes is Kevin Campbell and Big Dunc, I want proper heroes, the ones who win trophies, You couldnt believe the smile on my face when Yak scored yesterday, Were in a semi-final, first time in my life i've been old enough to understand it, Im buzzing because its the first time in my life i feel so optimistic about this team, I've never felt these feelings and i wont let some killjoy take those away from me and blues of a similar age.

Trophies is what Everton is, no matter how big or how small, it will bring back some success to the club and prove we are stepping in the right direction.

i enjoy it for what it is.

we differ on the ''what''

simple question - i'll take the win, BUT not at the expense of anything else.

I think watching Phil Neville lift a trophy above his head would be one of the best moments of my Everton supporting life - Carling cup or not.

for a second there bainsey you made it sound (to me) like i was maliciously trying to taint the experience for you and others.

that isnt the case.

dont think i have been referred to as a killjoy before, its rather novel.

(that league fourth place, specifically because of the circumstances around it, for me can never be bettered by any league cup or league cups)

its the only domestic trophy missing from are trophy cabinet so for me bring it on and win the [Poor language removed]!!!!!!!!!!!!

and of course it gives you a uefa cup place so thats good enough for me!!

I hate calling finishing above liverpool as a success and something we look back on, this shouldnt be the case.

You wouldnt have the carling cup over three points?

i didnt specify three - more or less points.

try this one though - a cahill broken toe.

carling cup or cahill fit for the season.

or any of the first team for that matter.

last season we finished sixth, two points behind spurs - the three points you mentioned above would have seen us fifth.

how much is every prem place worth now? how much does the league cup garner for the winner?

the devil was in the detail...

"specifically because of the circumstances around it"

and finishing better than the inbreds is always worth a smirk.
