We could have retained him if there was a will. There wasn't any. I dont accept that he cant cut it here. He was our most exciting player for a long, long time. He was and is still pretty young and has all the talent to develop into a top player...and if it really is true (and I doubt it) he also has time to physically mature and impose himself over a greater period of a game...although I have no time for all the perspiration over inspiration worship that seems to be de rigueur.

100%. I'm a sucker for true talent and he had it in spades. Something happened behind the scenes in my opinion. Stupid to lose someone like him yet we sit with some average talent running up and down our wings or sitting injured. Don't get this.. never will.

Del had a say though mate. He could have said no if he wanted. Can only think they've promised him game time. Maybe Messi moving back to moreof a midfield role.

Or as you said later he had a compelling reason to stay. Why stay in liverpool where he isn't wanted when he could go home and be a bench warmer at least. We have him no reason not to go.

He was talented but his attitude on the pitch was questionable.

As someone here pointed out - for Davies's goal against City he carried the ball and was floored. However, he quickly got up and scored. Geri would have stayed on the ground pulling his socks up cursing out his team mates in Spanish. We've all seen him do it multiple times.

Compare the attitudes of Davies and Geri. World of difference.

Probably the best outcome for Everton, really. He contributed a little bit and we made the maximum amount of money we would have ever made off the deal.
